Behold! Drizzt Go'Prourden!

Literally a terrible trailer. But it lets us know that a new DARK ALLIANCE game is coming out, now entitled DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: DARK ALLIANCE. It will be set in Icewind Dale and allow players to take control of the Companions of the Hall (Drizzt, Wulfgar, Bruenor and Cattie-brie, but not Regis for some reason) in a co-op action adventure kind of thing. This is a reboot of the DARK ALLIANCE series that ran for two games in the early 2000s.

Interesting, but not as promising as Larian's BALDUR'S GATE III, which should be arriving around the same time (both look like 2021 releases more than 2020, but you never know).

Werthead, this is not a complaint; simply, I've always been curious because I'm weird this way -- why do you always post titles of video games in all caps?

Is it a "reboot" (the words used in the announcement) or something else if it doesn't use the setting or characters of the original? The use of the "Dark Alliance" title seems to do only with the fact that it is a 4 player co-op action game set in the Forgotten Realms. Which is fine, but "reboot" would suggest to me something closer to the original that is a retelling.

The announcement, which was made at The Game Awards, is getting some pretty widespread coverage. There's articles on it at USA Today and the Washington Post. (Warning, there may be adwalls or paywalls.) Not the places I usually look for game news, so that's cool.

That said, I'm not sure I'll forgive Wizards for reintroducing Drizzt to a new generation of gamers. Though I admit it was fun to play him when you unlocked him in Demon Stone on the Playstation 2.

Im glad they decided to reboot instead of confusingly calling it Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance III with Baldur's Gate III also in the works.

At any rate, I know a lot of folks hated the Dark Alliance series as "diablo D&D" but I enjoyed those dungeon crawlers for what they were. I really hope they take a look at Champions of Norrath ("everquest diablo") and bring back some of the features. Though the co-op announcement makes me think they know what they are doing.

Also, that trailer is garbage...

I will say that as much as I hate Forgotten Realms, as much as I hate multiplayer games, I had the time of my life with DAII. Soooooooo much fun with two players!

I do so hope they also release the originals as downloads for existing consoles.
If DA and DAII pop up on the Playstation store, I'm buying them instantly.

New trailer and release date!

And yes, that's Ozzie Osbourne soundtracking a D&D Drizzt video game.

The tone of this trailer is wildly all over the place. Not sure about the guy flipping someone the bird either, which I don't think it a previously established thing in the Forgotten Realms.

Looks horribly generic, but possibly fun in a park-your-brain-in-neutral kind of way.

That's exactly what Dark Alliance has always been. A Diablo like D&D button masher. You want an adaption of a Forgettable Realms Drizzzzt novel, its not going to be found here.

The original was fair forgetable. This one looks the same. Though I'm glad the trailer used some of Ozzy's latest work. Ordinary Man is a good album.

Wow, so I emailed a few old dungeon crawlin buddies about DA. Didnt expect anything other than a few I dont knows or looks interesting. Instead we had all 4 characters covered by lunch with folks marking their calendars. Gotta love that!

The 2001 classic Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance has been remastered and released today for consoles (later for PC). Cant wait to dive back in!

Here's hoping for DA2 and Champions of Norrath 1-2 to be re-released too!
