Videogame adaptation announced!

Wrath of the Righteous

This is the next game from the Kingmaker devs, Owlcat Games. Info seems scarce at the moment, but they've confirmed Witch and Oracle will be in, along with a new race that I haven't seen elaborated on yet.

Any hopes, expectations, fears?

Press Release from Owlcat.

They're adapting mythic to make it...better? Easier to use in a CRPG. Which makes sense if they stick with Real Time with Pause, even Turn Based would be a hassle because of all the immediate actions and other off turn options Mythic gives PCs.

The paths look to be different given that they've named one Lich instead of Archmage.

Mostly I want to see how they reshape the encounter with Iomedae, as it continues to be fairly contentious. Given how they handled Shelyn and Pharasma in Kingmaker I'm quite curious.

Wrath can get pretty dark though and very adult with all the demons and corruption about so that'll be interesting to see how its handled.

That's what makes it fun! Let's let the adults have something for once.

I'm mostly excited, but bit afraid they happen to cut either cool monsters or cool NPCs in favor of their own stuff(or because it'd be hard to animate/model/budget runs out/etc). I'm also kinda worried the need to include option for evil characters ends up making more changes to feel of the story. Like Kingmaker had odd thing with trying to be morally ambiguous in game with alignment, if game is trying to be morally ambiguous in AP that was originally the "super good guys the heroics ap!" I'd kinda feel sad at heroism feeling less heroic

I do hope thought that Alderpash is recruitable character in it :p

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm actually really surprised they picked this adventure path, since it has a lot of extra rules (all the mythic stuff).

As I understand, the extra stuff is something the developers really enjoy. They picked Kingmaker first of all things partially because of the kingdom management aspect.

Oh and a Venturebeat article with interviews

In my wildest dreams, they'd do an Iron Gods game, expanded to have more meat to it than just endless dungeon crawls.

Disappointed to say the least. This would have been so much more with Runelords, Carrion Crown, or Iron Gods.
Skull and Shackles would have been great too, although Pillars of Eternity 2 didn't sell that well from what Obsidian said, not sure if that crossed Owlcat's mind too.

I'll likely pass on this. Any of the above would have been a day one purchase.

Just my opinion. Don't take it the wrong way.

I would have liked Iron Gods myself, but I think if we could not have yet another version of Runelords in a licensed property, I'd appreciate it.

The only way I'd be interested in Runelords is if we were guaranteed Rise, Shattered Star, and Return together.

Wondering if it'll be in PF1e or PF2e.

I believe they've said it'll be 1e, but with original rules for Mythic. The current Mythic paths they've confirmed are Angel, Trickster, and Lich, with more to come.

If someone had asked me (prior to reading this) to guess what the next Pathfinder game would be, I would have guessed Curse Of The Crimson Throne, though I agree that Iron Gods would be awesome.

I like the idea - Wrath is very Videogamey what with the evergrowing Monsters, planeshopping and defeating actual gods. I will be interested in their take on Mythic - obviously a complete depart from the original rules. A Lich with hordes of minions??? I did not see that coming.

Also, Moral ambiguity does not seem difficult at all for Wrath - in my own game, the question will be very much if the Players do not become worse that the gods they defeat and replace them as the new rulers of the Abyss. Something like that Can easily be done in a Computer Game.
