New to Starfinder looking for a party face build?

Advice

I am running Starfinder for my group. Most of us (including me) are completely new to SF. Now I have been running Traveller/Space Opera/etc... since they came out, and have been GMing PF since beta, so I hope my past experience doesn’t mess me up.

I am also trying to bring my gf into the game. She doesn’t like crunch so I would prefer a relatively simple build. And we only have the
core book at present as we want to see how it flies with our gang before dropping major $$$.

So what would you folks recommend for a social face character. My understanding is fighting isn’t at such a variance with SF vs. PF so that would be secondary. That said the less math (single attack vs. iteratives) would be preferred.

Any help welcome and thanks!

Oh if the campaign setting matters...we’re going with published modules so build for combat frequency based on that (I have no idea what the default for SF is)...

She should be an Envoy for sure.

Start with Get 'Em! to point to an enemy she wants dead and give the team a +1 to shoot or whack that enemy. This is a move action, and can be performed every round. She can also either move or attack once in the same round.

At 2nd level she can get Inspiring Boost, which is a Stamina heal that shr can use usually once per fight on each ally when they get hit.

As for her expertise die, probably Bluff or Diplomacy in addition to Sense Motive, depending on what kind of face she likes to roll.

Stat-wise, a high Cha is good, but there is such a thing as too high, since you'll want decent Dex to make and dodge shots.

For a feat, consider Skill Synergy to pick up any class skills the group lacks, or Longarm Proficiency to make her single shots count.

Good luck!

Stats: DEX>CHA
Race: Human
Theme: Icon
Class: Envoy
Feats: Longarms proficiency + weapon focus or longarms + heavy weapons proficiency (requires Str 13)

Improvisations like Get'em and Not in the Face, that are move actions.

Culture expertise talents like Skilled Linguist and Cultural Savant, only used outside of combat.

If you don't have the Armory, the best starting longarm would be azimuth laser rifle, I suppose, and the azimuth artillery laser the best heavy one.

Lot's of utility as a face and will also contribute quite well in combat.

Any character class could be built as party face. However, there are certainly some classes that are easier to do it with than others.

I also agree that Envoy would be top choice. Both because of the effectiveness of the resulting character and the ease of building and playing it.

Operative and Solarian can also be built as party face fairly easily, but it would be more of a forced fit - can be done, but takes more understanding to be effective. Also those classes are more complicated to build and run.

One thing to note here. None of the player characters have iterative attacks. Everyone gets a single attack as a standard action each round, or can take the entire round to make two attacks with a -2 on both of them. That is available from lvl1 and doesn't change*.

* Well, some of the combat-heavy classes can eventually get class abilities that tweak things a bit. Adding more attacks, but increasing the penalty. But in all cases, the penalty is fixed for the character and applies to all of the attacks. No calculating different attack bonuses for each of the many attacks made in one round.

Actually it's a -4 to both attacks, feats/abilities can change this.

What's is she looking for, besides a party face?

While I like the idea behind the Envoy, it just feels a bit weak when compared to the other classes.

Operative, while more complicated to play, feels like you're actually doing something then just cheering from the side lines.

My two cents.
