Performance vs diplomacy

Advice

Hi there,

Soon our party will hit lvl 2, and I am currently split between a few possibilities.

I am playing a half orc redeemer champion, who worship shelyn as She finds herself in a similar situation with her Brother, and because of that she found hope in her.

I Plan to get both bard, polymath, and fighter dedication.

Here's now the question.

Could performance be a fair choice instead of diplomacy?

My Plan was to use my storitelling skills in order to make good impression on other people, and because of this showing them that even someone who committed a horrible crime could atone for his sins, and make a fresh start.

Now, I find that showing someone that there is hope is different from making a request, because it is something a person could achieve by experiencing forgiveness and merco, or simply by seeing a herald of hope.

To be Even more clear, I don't see myself making a negotiation with somebody to make him a better person. This because it is simply nonsense.

I let you go if you promise me not to Hurt anybody anymore.

It sucks, and it is even too pretentious as a request like "open the door for us and we wIll reward you 5 golds". It is utopic.

Given my goddess, I am mostly for performance.

On the other hand, diplomacy will allow me to make requests ( however, I Plan to have both diplomacy and performance trained by lvl 1 ).

Both can be used to get an income during downtimes, but diplomacy seems way better at it.

Some extra info:

My skills will be athletics, occultism and one between diplomacy and performance. So given the system I can't take both.

I won't be taking polymath versatility because not enough talents.

What do you think?
Any advice?

You're mostly going to Make an Impression and invest in Performance anyway, I'd say definitely get the Impressive Performance skill feat.

If you have Diplomacy at least trained, you can still use it to Make a Request if the situation demands it.

Yeah that was the idea.

What concerns me is the bonus to my check, but eventually i could boost it with items and eventually spells.

I forget to say that I would be using the impressive performance feat. My bad.

I would probably try to fit Versatile Performance in there somehow to unlock Shameless Request. Could solve all your problems.

The problem is that even if you unlock feats, their dc is based on the actual skill dc.

So I will be 2/4/6 less on my check, even if i reduce by 2 the penalty of a request.

Finally, I think I don't really see my character with that feat.

Quote:
You can downplay the consequences or outrageousness of your requests using sheer brazenness and charm

I mean, woah.

It seems more suited for a politician than a champion.

The point is more the inability to critically fail on the check.

It's fine if you don't see your character this way and don't want the feat. But remember that a Redeemer is not a Paladin.

The line in the quote is just fluff. A Champion of Shelyn might use stories about how a similar request was overcome with heroic courage to make her point. It's still a Diplomacy check, not Deception. And besides, neither Redeemer nor Shelyn says anything about not being allowed to lie.

Interesting.

Thanks for the full explanation.

Now I have to check if somehow I could afford to get rid of one of my feats in order to take bard versatility.

I'd actually pick another muse with the Bard Dedication feat and then pick up Versatile Performance via Muse's Whisper -> Multifarious Muse. The result is the same (2 feats invested to get Versatile Performance) but going this way give you access to two muses just in case you later consider getting more bard feats.

It's most likely not going to matter if you're already feat-starved but there's no downside to it.
