Touch AC

Rules Discussion

Is there still a touch AC or touch attack in Pathfinder 2?
I can not find any rules about it, but it is shown on the pregenerated Society character sheets.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

It's definitely not a thing anymore, thought it was in the playtest. Are you looking at the right sheets? They may have not been updated properly, I haven't looked myself.

Touch AC does not exist in PF2. Any reference you might see to it is either a typo or a mistaken holdover from the playtest.

Spells with a range of Touch auto-hit, unless the spell text tells you to make a spell attack roll (which would then resolve against regular AC).

Touch AC is not in PF2 because it is not as necessary any more.

The original design intent of that system was to make up for the poor BAB (base attack bonus) that casters got in comparison to martials. Because a pure wizard usually had so much trouble hitting regular AC, the usually much lower touch AC was introduced so that the wizard could shoot things with lasers.

The proficiency system provides the same 'wizards can't swing a weapon, but they can sling a spell' design by giving them higher proficiency in their spells than they do with weapons. So an 20 int, lvl 20 wizard with a ray has the about same general bonus on their roll as an 20, lvl 20 strength fighter has with their greatsword.

Nope no touch AC.
There are auto touch stuff. A few spells (you auto touch and they roll vs DC) . Contact poisons are also auto hit roll for DC I believe.

Honestly I really like it.
(Though Alch have an annoyingly low (but not horrible horrible) chance rate with their bombs. So I miss touch AC for the debuffs. (Though I assume at some point there will be options to get Alch Items Prof up to master or more)

This is balanced by the fact that bombs still do splash damage on a miss.
