Backswing MAP or No MAP?

Rules Discussion

Quick question: does Backswing mean there is no MAP when your attack misses?

Example: flurry + two attacks / Lv.1 Monk / +4 STR / already in Dragon Stance and close to enemy. The enemy's AC is, say, a 14. So here comes my round 2 actions: a flurry and two attacks...

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Miss
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 Backswing
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11

Did I edit in the correct bonuses/penalties? (+1 for Backswing, -5 for MAP)

No, backswing does not negate MAP from a miss.

No. MAP is an untyped penalty so it doesn’t conflict with the circumstance bonus from Backswing.

Ah, I was afraid that was the case.

So Agile is better in every way than both the Backswing and Sweep traits (combined). I was hoping Paizo would have put more effort into balancing the traits.

Oh well. Not arguing facts, and the upside is this is easier to manage in a PbP since I can just add a note, like (+1 if above missed).

Thanks for letting me know.

While in the traits themselves aren't balanced against each other that doesn't matter as the weapons themselves are what need to be looked at. No weapon with agile has more than 1d6 damage other than the sawtooth saber but that's an advanced weapon. Backswing and sweep can be found on weapons with up to 1d10 or 1d12 damage alongside other powerful traits like forceful. Some weapons even have a combination of the two traits like the hatchet which has agile and sweep traits.

Oh, okay. That makes sense then.
