Zellara's Harrow Deck and Recovery

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

So how does Zellara's Harrow Deck work with recovery?

During Recovery

Discard this card; you may succeed at a Perception 12 check to recharge instead, adding 1d4 if the hour is Harrow.

First should this be like spells and say "If proficient discard..."

(For those unfamiliar with the item there is a banish to do something power.)

Second who would be proficient. Its an item and the traits are Tool, Magic, Gambling, Harrow, Mental. No one from the Core or Curse has proficiency in any of those. Curious about the intent here.

Thanks.

It works like it says: If you succeed at a Perception 12 check, recharge it; otherwise, discard it. You don't need to be proficient—you just need to be perceptive.

(If you're wondering why you have to go through recovery as opposed to just saying "discard to examine; you may succeed at a Perception check to recharge instead," it's because recovery limits the power to once per turn.)

How does this work with the "Banish to examine 3 cards of location" ability it has?

Exactly as it says in the rulebook.

If you banish a card that has an effect that occurs "During Recovery", then instead place it in a Recovery Pile. After processing end-of-turn effects (and before resetting your hand), you may complete the check or other effect listed in the "During Recovery" section of that card, which usually allows you to discard or recharge it (based on your proficiencies and/or the result of a check).

If you do anything else with a card (such as discard, bury or recharge it) it does not go into a Recovery Pile. During Recovery effects are only ever going to be used after you 'banish' a card, so that power you mention is the only case you should normally see Zellara's Harrow Deck in Recovery.

potentially silly question but if i reload the harrow deck to examine the top three cards of my own deck am i always going to be examining the harrow deck since reloading puts it on top?

If the power reads something like "Reload to examine," then yes since you perform the prescribed actions in the order listed.

Thanks, that's how I read it too, but it strikes me as a bit odd. The power seems intended to let you look at the top 3 cards of your deck, but because of the reload mechanic you only get to look at the top 2. Maybe they intended it to be more useful to look at another character's deck, where you get the full 3...

Yes, I'm sure it's intended that way. You can also rearrange those cards you examine with it, including the Deck itself if you choose your own deck.
