So let me get this right. Something falls from the sky over the rural heartland. Family adopts the baby found inside the alien spacecraft. The boy grows up and learns he has superpowers. Ok. So it's Superboy. But wait, this is Superboy if he was evil! How clever!

Brightburn

I am going to see it on Friday...

I really hope you enjoy it. I just can't buy into it.

I have heard this pitched as "What if Dru-Zod, not Kal-El, was the last survivor of Krypton?"

At first that seemed like a stupid pitch, because either way an infant arrives, and would be entirely shaped by his rural Kansas upbringing.

Then I thought "but if Zod is presented as a true psychopath..." As I understand it, it's widely believed that while sociopathy is a "nurture" thing, psychopathy is largely genetic. So in that light it would make sense.

I'm sure there are no explicit references to actual DC properties of any kind; the "what if" that I heard was merely a shorthand explanation.

I kind of read it more as "What if Ultra-man landed on our Earth" but sure... Dru-Zod works too.

It looks like it will be terrible but still interesting enough to watch. I'll wait till it comes out on a streaming service or something and watch infinity war again >.>

I must be tired. For a full five seconds I was thinking "what does a Japanese space robot have to do with anything?"

Yeah, the Earth-3 villain may be a better match.

I am just looking at it as Superman done as a horror movie...

Or what if Lex Luthor wrote superman....

Literally the only Superman movie I have the slightest interest in, even with the serial numbers filed off.

With that said, I don't expect brilliance. We'll see.

I dunno about the ONLY Superman movie..but yeah, Damon, I was referring to Crime Syndicate of America Ultra-man, not the Japanese anime robot.

I'm not sure about this being something Lex would right...mostly because I don't see him playing second fiddle to anyone.

Just got back from seeing it...I liked it...the kid did a great job.

Huh... I was expecting hot garbage too.

I heard something about a mid-credits scene...?

Really they should just make a irredeemable movie... well maybe mini-series.

If you don't feel like clicking the link and reading my full review, my tl;dr appraisal:

Well-acted, well-cast, well-made, but never really rises above its gimmick.

Sovereign Court

Well this film was a letdown.

Hama,

Well until they show us this is like some kind of Earth-3 world...or not, I'm convinced this Brightburn stuff is more Ultra-Man.
