I don't know why my delivery is slow, but before I get volume 1....aside from Carrion Crown (assuming this is the case) is there anything you'd run to set this up/give flavor/set the tone....

There's a PFS mod, 10-04 Reaver's Roar, that is set in and around Roslar's Coffer; that might help the PCs get to know the place a little better.

Carrion Crown does function as some backstory, and it might be worth checking out.

The destruction of the seals that keep Tar-Baphon locked away is a relatively important piece of backstory, and some of the stories that touch on that are Crown of the Kobold King and "Runeplague" from Return of the Runelords.


I suppose anyone in this thread knows spoilers are coming, but...

My idea:
I haven't been able to find any mention of the shield piece that detonates being in Roslar's Coffer to begin with. I thought I'd have the party hired by the people of Roslar's Coffer to recover their shard that was stolen from its display case in the town hall by orcs or thieves. They could then return to Roslar's Coffer too late at night to deliver it so they take it to the inn with them to rest. It detonates that night before they can return it, explaining why they were close enough to have the obols stuck in their hearts.

I've had quite a few slow packages in the past six months. One of my Return of the Runelord books was so late, the next volume arrived less than a week later!

Shisumo's suggestion of Runeplague is actually an interesting one, since part 4 does foreshadow the Tyrant's Grasp AP. The Return of the Runelords AP is really more of a series of vignettes with their own closed storylines, with the overarching narrative threading them together is rather weak. This makes it rather questionable as an AP, in my opinion, but does make it incredibly easy to just cut pieces out of the AP and run them as stand-alone adventures. There'd be little to no modification required; just remove the part 3 and the random encounters, go to the fast XP track to make up for the lost XP so the party is ready for part 4, and you're good to go.

I'd like some "professional" advice...instead of running Carrion Crown and spending a year +, thinking of running Shattered Shield, then Reavers Roar with the same PCs, then having them caught in the explosion and come back as level 1 PCs in the Boneyard, sine it says the PCs are warped versions of themselves. What do you think...The PCs can have the back story stuff and maybe some insight into the whispering Way etc....


Hmm, I don't think you have to make them play Carrion Crown. On the contrary, I did it, and now I fear that my players know too much about the Whispering Way and Tar Baphon. After all,

Spoilers about Carrion Crown and Golarion Lore:
normal people think that Tar Baphon is dead and should not know anything about the Whispering Way, or if they do they have to think that it has disappeared, but in Carrion Crown the party actually discover that he is still alive and that the WW is still active. You also learn a bunch of things about the Whispering Way.

But, in book 3 of Tyrant's Grasp,

it seems like there is a new organization helping Tar Baphon. I did not have the time to read their article or the scenario as of now, but maybe this will help make what the players know about the Whispering Way less important for the campaign.

Maybe my judgement will change after reading book 3, but as of now I would suggest making them more acquainted with Last Wall than with the Whispering Way. Sadly I'm not familiar with adventures happening in that country =/

Still, if you think your players won't metagame, or if you think that metagaming about the Whispering Way is not a problem, you can play scenario showcasing them.

I'm not a fan of the "make high level characters go back to level 1" route. Sure, it helps with having the PCs know each other and work correctly together, but I'm not sure that resetting and replaying the same character would be fun. I find that half of the fun of making a character level up is to discover how you can improve them with new abilities.

But that's my opinion and your players might like this approach. I'd suggest starting by playing the scenarios you wanted to play, and then once you are done ask your players if they would like to play a resetted version of the same characters in Tyrant's Grasp :) You don't have to spoil the plot, just to tell them they will play the same characters but at level 1 :)

The Seal-Breakers don't serve Tar Baphon, and are not actually adherents of the Whispering Way at all. It just so happens that the immediate goals of the two groups overlap. Most of the Whispering Way aren't aware of this, and simply believe the Seal-Breakers are an offshoot sect. The Seal-Breakers regard this as a useful fiction, as their true aims are antithetical to the Whispering Way and would likely make them enemies. Tar Baphon himself is aware of their goals, but it's unclear whether he's sympathetic to that cause or is so arrogant that he doesn't care.

The Seal-Breakers want to unmake all reality, and they believe they have a way to do it. Their first step is to recover an artifact called the Key of Geb that was sealed in Gallowspire with Tar Baphon. Releasing Tar Baphon is merely a beneficial side-effect from their perspective; their primary goal is the recovery of this artifact. Whatever chaos the Whispering Tyrant unleashes on the world is just bonus points. They've worked with Tar Baphon in the past, but regard him as too ego-maniacal and unstable and don't intend to work with him again, at least not directly.


I've run "The Night March of Kalkemedes" only set in the Stolen Lands (where our campaign is based) and changing the temple at the end to one dedicated to Aroden.

I've added the talisman "Grace of the Last Azlanti" to the treasure at the end, which the PCs will take and keep on their person as they head to Lastwall to perform a related mission. When *boom* occurs, the talisman will affect them and lodge the obols in their chests.

Dunno about an adventure, but I should think that whoever runs this AP should do a session 0, wherein the future adventurers meet in a tavern and there's this mysterious woman...
