Apologize for the length post. I'm building a Mounted Fury Barbarian, using the Nagaji race and a boon I picked up which will let me have a Large Chameleon. as a mount. I don't want to be charge dependent, so I'm considering at a build that will allow more animal handling and less ride. Unfortunately Ferocious Beast isn't on the Unchained list. Here's my two current concepts:
--Skilled Rager: Handle Animal
--Atavism Totem, Lesser
The unchained barbarian gets the basic unchained improvements and accurate stance, but the companion will often be limited to the contagious rage (rage spell) benefits. The core will have his own bite/ferocity/trample, and the companion will get an upgraded bite and ferocity, as well as full rage benefits. Thoughts?
It looks like with the unchained build, you have to spend a standard action to activate Contagious Rage, but the chained build doesn't need to. Paying a standard action tax in the first round of combat is a heavy price to pay.
I think barbarians are the case where the unchained variant seemed to be perhaps weaker than it's progenitor.

Yep, they lose a lot of little things that add up (flat damage bonuses don't get the 1.5 multiplier when attacking two handed, no bonus to Constitution means no bonus to Fortitude saves, etc.) and the new stance powers cost a move action to activate, which clashes with being a rage power...
I really wanted to like the unchained version, but I can't quite give it a thumbs up: Getting a initial stance for free when you enter rage (assuming you have a stance power) and/or getting the Will save bonus to Fort and Reflex saves would probably be enough to fix it, though...
