PFS Character help: What if Dr Temperance Brenner was a necromancer?

Advice

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'd like to put together my first character for PFS this weekend and I'd like that character to be a necromancer with a heart of gold.

I'm imaging him as a brilliant and helpful but entirely lacking the squick factor that others have towards the undead, kind of like a Dr Temperance Brenner from Bones if she had access to necromancy.

Any suggestions on how to stat this character up? Faction choices? Familiars?

Awesome concept.

You want a maxed out heal skill.

You want to dump your cha. into the toilet, since she has a lot of trouble relating to people.

For pure flavor you might consider unarmed strike or a level of monk but that might be taking it too far. Agile manuevers might fit too..

STR: 7 DEX: 14 CON: 14 INT: 19 WIS: 14 CHA: 7

I'm going to see if i can find a way to use int on the heal skill.

You want

Heal
Knowledge local (she is an anthropologist)

A rank in all knowledges is never a bad thing.

Trait for flavor: Rahadoumi Disbeliever (Rahadoum) - +2 bonus on saves vs. divine spells, but you must make saves even when that magic is beneficial to you. TERRIBLE. This is absolutely terrible. This means you have to save against healing spells sent your way. Avoid this at all cost

Caretaker: +1 to heal and heal is a class skill.

Eureka! out of ultimate campaign

Precise Treatment: You treat others with a clear and calculating intellect. You gain a +1 trait bonus on all Heal checks, and you may use your Intelligence modifier when making Heal checks instead of your Wisdom modifier.

Precise Treatment from Ultimate Campaign

Precise Treatment is perfect! Caretaker also looks pretty good.

I'm seeing him (Dr. Barrett Tenner) with no ranks in Bluff or Diplomacy but with a high Sense Motive and a tendency to announce whatever the results of that Sense Motive check may be.

I think you need to dump Wisdom as much, if not more than Charisma. The character's depiction is rather inconsistent, but she's usually borderline autistic in her inability to grasp social cues or understand how people will react to her insensitivity. Not to mention how often she's depicted as oblivious to how bad she is at various things (you should certainly try to make various perform skill checks despite having no ranks) or how dangerous her plans are (insisting that Booth throw knives at her).

I don't think he should have any ranks in Sense Motive at all, or perhaps only start taking a few at higher level to get him to the point where he can hit a DC 10 by taking ten.

I like the idea of a low wisdom - on the show it seems she figures out other character's intentions through deductive reasoning which might correspond to training in Sense Motive but no natural talent in that direction (AKA WIS modifier).
