Exquisite Performance and Variable Costs

Rules Questions

Sovereign Court

I am making a bard for a home game and I am focusing on Masterpieces.
While finding options I like, I came across the Masterpiece Life Budding in Salted Earth.

"Effect: This masterpiece grants all allies within 30 feet fast healing 1 for as long as the bard maintains the performance. He may increase the cost per round of the performance up to a total number equal to half his bard level to increase the fast healing by 1 for each additional round expended."

This brought up a question of how this interacts with the "EXQUISITE ACCOMPANIMENT" Spell:

"Effect: You create a phantom instrument, a glowing construct of magic in the form of a portable musical instrument of your choice. The instrument floats beside you, moving as you move (even if you teleport). It cannot be damaged, but can be dispelled. The instrument plays as you direct, and as long as it plays, you do not have to expend rounds of bardic performance from your daily allotment to maintain an effect. Activating a bardic performance or switching to a new effect still costs a round of your overall bardic performances per day."

For the purposes of this discussion, lets assume that Masterpieces are considered Bardic Performances (I realize that this is still a point of debate, but for this home game we are operating under the assumption that they are).

How would these two combine? Would you start the performance as Fast Healing X, and then the spell would maintain the performance at X and cost you nothing? Or would the spell default the performance to X=1? Or would it do something else?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hmmm, I would rule that the extra fast healing per round would come under the statement of: Activating a bardic performance or switching to a new effect still costs a round of your overall bardic performances per day.

So, while the spell is up, you and your allies get fast healing 1 at a free round of performance. If you want to increase the amount of fast healing gained each round, each extra fast healing 1 is subtracted from your daily amount of bardic performance amount and grants an extra fast healing 1 to all allies within 30 feet.

My reasoning is that, normally, you can change the amount of fast healing granted each round. The only consistent fast healing is 1, granted by the base ability, and that is what is maintained by the spell in question...

Hmmm I thought the fast healing was locked in when you stared the performance and you would have to stop the perf and start again to change it.
