Return of the Runelords TImeline

Product Discussion

How many years after Rise of the Runelords is Return of the Runelords?

Our party came up with the idea of making new characters that are the children of their characters from RotR. Is that viable?

It is essentially the number of years between when the adventures we're published (12, 13?). On the other hand, as long as you push back the date of the events of Shattered Star, it would be easy enough to make a few minor adjustments and run with children of Sandpoint's heroes. The adventure mentions clean up in Magnimar of something that happens late in Shattered Star (although in my campaign, the events mentioned were circumvented by high level magic.)

I'd go with it, whatever adjustments you have to make will be made up for with the investment of your players in the Continuing story.

And that implication of there being a dozen or so years between adventures gets superseded by your own table if you played Rise of the Runelords and/or Shattered Star, in which case you already know how much time has passed at a minimum (the time it took you and your players to play through those prior Adventure Paths).

If the time that passes is more than about a decade, though, you might need to adjust some of the recurring NPCs, since they'll have grown that much older over time.
