The problem i have had with this new book is the content for making a character is so scattered and the terminology is so hard to find. To find what a Trained skill even was took me 3 hours of reading. Unlike the old book were is i had a question of figuring how skill rules worked like TRAINED and UNTRAINED should have a bold section in the skill section of the book explain what they are and what it means to be trained in a skill do i get a bonus for being trained in a skill or no. Also better explain what signature skills are ALOT better and what it means to explain. The writing in the book on character creation is so scattered and explains things terrible. In the beginning of the book should not explain what you can and cant do with things or give examples or what you can do with those skills or abilities. The beginning of the book for character creation should just tell you what boxes to check for what ancestor and class you are playing and if you have questions about your class like for example what happens to skills as you lvl you should have a bold section under the skills tabs that explain what happens to skills as you lvl and so on and so forth. Ill add more as i read the book more. What I would like to see from the book is anyone can pick up this book with little to no or even lots of experience with pen paper rpg and be able to read over the beginning of the book and have to problems with making a character and CLEARLY understanding the terminology which is not what it happening with this book right now. Alot of people are sitting and scratching there heads and getting frustrated with what even to do and what everything even means

I need some help this area also. What is the number for a DC? Where does level come in? How do skills go up? (not just the rules, but examples too. please)

Level comes in as part of the "trained" proficiency modifier. I wish it was listed separately. Level + Attribute + TEML + Misc

Page 290 and 291 are where the basic DC mechanic comes in, though it is a bit too complex in my opinion.

Draco18s has the right of it:
Level + Attribute + Proficiency (Untrained/Trained/Expert/Master/Legendary) + other miscellaneous modifiers.

So if you are a Level 4 Rogue, with an 18 Dexterity, trying to Climb a steep cliff, and you are an Expert in Athletics, then it is:

4 (Level) + 4 (Dex modifier) + 1 (Expert Proficiency) = a +9 to add to the d20 Roll. If you had an Expert quality climbing kit (pages 184 and 190), then you would have an additional +1 to the roll as a Miscellaneous modifier, for a +10 total to add to your d20 roll.

Page 337 gives the appropriate range of DCs for a given task of a certain level. Let's say the GM has decided that the steep slope the Rogue is climbing would be a tough challenge for even a Level 6 character, so assigns it a "High" difficulty. The chart of page 337 gives a DC 22 for a level 6 High challenge. So, this level 4 rogue would have to make a DC 22 on a roll of d20+10. Tough challenge, but not impossible. DCs do NOT scale with the person attempting them; it's just an idea of how tough a challenge would be overall, and once you set it you leave it be. If a Level 8 Master athletics Ranger with 16 DEX came along that same steep slope, he would have an 8 + 3 + 2 = +13 to climb that DC22 slope = a decidedly better chance than the level 4 rogue with special gear.

Don't know if that helps at all, but the basics of the system itself are VERY simple. The hardest part for most veteran gamers is that this is the same formula for EVERYTHING; Saving throws, armor class, skill checks, attacks, initiative, combat maneuvers like shoving and grappling, etc. because it all works the same now, You could marry up really weird stat combinations in the future for special powers - like a special ability based on a Fighter's STR that attacks someone's Wisdom saving throw, or competing Reflex Saving throws to see who grabs a loose item on the floor first, etc.

Bingo.
(As an aside, my digital character sheet breaks out the "level" portion explicitly for all sections except skills; its included in the calculation, just not displayed due to a lack of space).
