Making a silly yet strangely strong character.
Skittermander Solarian for Skittershot.
And while I'm still trying to put together in my head how holding a Spear and a Pike at the same time would work (six arms but weilding things two-handed generally means holding them across your body, and generally you twist your body to keep a spear forward, so they'd have to be the same side? But then as you attack things would likely get tangled... Thinking about it hurts), it did raise me a question.
While weilding a reach weapon and another weapon, can you use either one for a provoked opportunity attack? I want to say no, but it's unclear to me for reach. Moving from 10ft away (the pike's range) to 5ft, is the attack happening while they are still 10ft away, or 5ft?
The obvious reason for wanting this is the Block weapon quality the spear has, however this could also apply with things like weapons with the Entangle property. On a AoO are they entangled in the square next to you, or do they make it to the 10ft away square before being Entangled?
Essentially, what's the order that the actions happen? Is it move-attack or attack-move? Where are they when the AoO happens? Because there's nothing I could find in threatened squares that actually says you have to use the threatening weapon (though I would label it like the fact grenades go boom as something that is implied).

Attacks of opportunity interrupt the action that triggers them (this is why spellcasters try to get away from you before casting). So if someone were moving from 10' to 15', you would attack with your pike, then they would move.
If they moved from 5' to 10', you would hit them with either weapon, and then they would move.
If you entangle someone with an AoO, they must deal with that effect before or while they move further.

You missed the scenario I was mentioning though, moving from 10' to 5'. Assume the pike-spear fighter is fighting at their 10' reach and their target tries to approach them without guarded step. Or say the pike-spear fighter is being rushed at, and instead of taking the attack of opportunity when their target is going from 15' to 10', they instead choose to lure them closer for the 10' to 5'. For any tactical reason.
As a note, the spear is still one of the better options even without block since it's a thrown weapon, which is why I took it in the first place. This was just an odd curiosity and of course wanting to get the most of the block quality, since it has specific rules.

Actually what I said covers it. Your attack interrupts their movement, so if they moved from 10' to 5', you could only attack with the pike. They're not in range of the spear's AoO unless they are within 5' and take a non-guarded step (or withdrawal, but in withdrawal case, they would get from 5' to 10' and then take an AoO from your pike).
Your strategy is a pretty good one. Just get Called or Returning on that spear so you can chuck it and get it back when you need to block.

One step ahead of you. ;3 Had to go with Calling on the spear though, since as a Solarian and a Skittermander, I move way too much for the Returning quality. Charge as a standard, hyper for two move actions. I'm everywhere.
