When missing with foe throw

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

Considering foe throw.

When the save is failed (not often), I sometimes (often) roll a 5 or something, missing the second target.

The initial target is not prone, and takes half damage... Sure. But...

" If your blast misses, the thrown creature can choose to occupy any space within 30 feet of the target"

Whut?
Why?
How?

This sentence put my DM in the following position:
I threw an opponent onto a target that was adjacent to that opponent. But because I missed, the thrown opponent suddenly has a choice of ANY spot within 30' of the target!!! Even if that is in the other direction entirely!! Perhaps even behind the party!

Ate we reading this right? What's the idea behind this rule?

Please help us understand.

Bump. Anyone?

Pathfinder physics are wonkier than that one guys chocolate factory.

There is always a certain amount of trust placed in the GM to interpret things correctly. The idea behind the miss seems to be that the "thrown" creature manipulates the direction of the telekinetic throw. It specifically says "any square within 30'", so that's how it goes.

The target grabs at the ground or nearby objects or is able to put their feet down enough to gain traction and change the direction of the throw.

This could easily be clarified with a FAQ, but with the new edition forthcoming, we are on our own to adjust the rules as best fits our respective tables.
