Chakos looks to Astra and hisses and spits a bit.

Abyssal:
"Glad to see you up and around again."

Argug, now flanking the alien with Sneek, delivers a series of rapid palm strikes to the creature's neck region.

Are those damage rolls and such accounting for Argug being larger?

Snort sniggle

Abyssal:
"Great job Argug"

Female Human

Should be 1d8 for fists

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

The +2 to STR would give a +1 to hit, but that is counterbalanced by getting bigger. However there should also be another +1 to damage for STR. So, yeah, 1d8's and another +1 for damage, right? Well, and the -2 to AC. -1 for Dex dropping by 2, and -1 for getting larger. Net is +0 to hit, +1 to DMG, and -2 to AC I believe.

Astra:
The language the Kasatha is speaking is alien but not Androffan. Because of that, you cannot make out most of what he says except for the name Zyphus. You glance into the room and see several drawings of pickaxes made of bone on the walls of the observatory all written in a dark red ink. You know that cults that worship Zyphus tend to "help" make accidental deaths in order to strengthen their god's power.

Argug didn't actually hit, but he has 1 Luck so I will be using that for that because this is likely a critical battle. Argug has 19 HP.

Argug Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

And we'll use his original damage. :P

Argug's larger, meatier palm smacks into the undead kasatha. You hear a crack as bone is broken in its face and neck, but the head remains attached if loose.

The Kasatha moves his blade in a dervish of bronzed steel, cutting at Argug and Chakos. For good measure, he throws his fists at the ratfolk behind him.

Kasatha attacks:

Slash at Argug: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 151d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Slash at Chakos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 81d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Punch Sneek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Punch Sneek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 121d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Argug gets hit for 10. Sneek gets hit for 5.

22 damage to the undead Kasatha. Everyone's turn.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

After having given Argug a spot of healing, Astra then turns her attention to her own condition. She starts to pull the javelin through her torso gradually, little by little, in the same direction as it entered of course to avoid pulling the blade a second time through her. At the same time, she whispers words of magic, summoning her last Cure Light Wounds spell for the day to staunch bleeding and disinfect the wound as it is exposed. Once the javelin is clear through, she lets it fall to the floor with a clank, and she sags against a wall for support, gasping deeply as she finishes the spell, organs and flesh knitting themselves back together.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

Sneek, I'll take your 5hp of damage. We're still Life Linked

Chakos will 5' step away and CLW on himself.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Ok, I'm perfectly healed up! This will work much better once I can have multiple Life Links!

Argug, Sneek and Elizabeth have an action.

The Kasatha's chest rises and falls, as though breathing. Looking at its condition, you feel that no air enters this creature.

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

Can I discern what manner of undead this equates to in humanoids?

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Male Ratfolk Ranger 2 ( Galvanic Saboteur ) / Rogue 2 | HP 35/35 | AC 19 T 15 F 14| F +5 R +10 W +1 | CMD 17 | Initiative +6 | Perception +10

Nose bleeding from the undead fist to his face Sneek again tries use his rapier to pierce a vital part of the creature. Make this one count, we might not get another chance.

Attack:

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Sneak Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

@Astra I’m truly impressed by you storytelling comments.

Female Human

Congrats to Astra on giving me the heebie jeebies! *eek*

Liz is worried, her spells are depleted except for a minor lightning spell. Glancing at her ring, Liz draws on it's power and covers one of the Kasatha's weapons with grease.

Use Arcane Bond to cast Grease on a short sword DC 15 not to drop

Awww, thanks guys. :) Nothing like a spear through the chest to impress the crowd...but what to do for an encore?

Chakos' Religion:
It is a zombie kasatha. Bones are visible but most of the creature has its flesh.

Strap a chainsaw to the hand you had to crudely amputate?

Sneek's rapier cuts into the alien creature, but its decayed flesh and undead nature cause little pain.

Kasatha Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

The undead creature drops one of its blades as Liz's magic coats it with slippery liquid. It clatters to the metal floor. The kasatha's eyes glow green for a moment as it glares at Liz.

"Jar galla et ju ga!" the Kasatha roars.

23 damage to the kasatha. Argug has an action.

GM:
Some kind of a super badass zombie I take it? Zombies are staggered and get only one attack (or move) per round, so this is clearly more than a zombie. What more can you tell me about it with that high roll?

Chakos:
(Yeah, this thing isn't fair, probably. Has a DR you can't be prepared for at this point in the game, unless you guys won money at the Hall and gave it all to one person to buy a weapon. Will probably increase its HP and weaken its DR for the other teams.:P)

Anyway, you have heard that blessings for certain evil gods, like Zyphus, can resurrect the creature every 24 hours, unless some ritual happens to undo it. You can also ask 2 questions.

Male Orc (AC: 16 [T: 12 FF: 14] | HP: 25/25 (0NL) | F+4, R+4, W+0) | Init: +2 |Perc: +5, Darkvision 60’)// Brawler 2

Sorry, didn't notice I was enlarged. Thanks for the update.

Argug opens his arms wide and attempts to box the creature's ears with two meaty fists a-la-Bearhugger from Punchout.

Attack +7, Power Attack -1, Flank +2, Flurry -2
Damage 1d8+6 (temporary boost due to size/str increase), Power Attack +2

Box Left Ear: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Left Ear Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Box Right Ear: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Right Ear Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

...and apparently, his hands clap together as this thing somehow ducks under both his attacks again!

Too bad, that was some good damage rolls...

The undead kasatha ducks beneath Argug's clap, then spins and slashes at the orc. He throws his three other fists at Chakos and Sneek.

Cut Argug: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 171d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Punch Chakos: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Punch Chakos: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 101d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Punch Sneek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

He makes a diagonal cut across Argug's chest and slams his fist into Chakos' right cheek but a golden illumination flashes briefly across the half elf's face deflecting the blow. His other hands miss as they push through empty air.

Everyone's turn again. Probably last round.

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

Those attacks miss Chakos due to the smite.

He will again swing at the creature.

Greataxe: 1d20 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 3 = 14
Greataxe Damage: 1d12 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8

This will overcome all DR.

Adjusted attack on Chakos.

Chakos' greataxe swings towards the creature's midsection but misses as the undead kasatha leans back almost impossibly for any normal living creature.

Astra, Liz, Sneek and Argug's turn. Finish this midboss.

Is there room to get into melee, or are Sneek, Chakos and enlarged Argug all blocking access to the kasatha?

There is one spot north of the creature, but you will provoke an opportunity attack.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

Invigorated by Chakos his healing Sneek stabs at the creature again, trying to help bring it down.

How do you kill something that has no life? I know….bad Southpark joke.

Attack:

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Argug, staggered from the sheer amount of damage he's received, starts to cough up blood. He looks at Chakos. "Can use a lil' help here, bud..."

Hold action until after Chakos's turn, so that hopefully I'm healed and can get a full turn in, cause otherwise I'm staggered and only get one attack

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

What happened? You had more than 6 HP, so I thought you were ok for this round? I attacked already, plus Chakos doesn't understand Common.

Female Human

Argug! Potion for you! Withdraw! I take place!

I got a healing potion and can suck up 1 round with AC 15 and HP 15 so you can drink my potion of CLW

I'm guessing he wasn't marking his hp clearly, maybe. Or Argug thinks he was targeted multiple times by the Kasatha.

I guess one more round. Make it an official battle.

Argug moves back, takes the potion from Liz and drinks it. Elizabeth takes the orc's place in the front lines and defends as best as a wizard can.

The undead kasatha swings his blade at Chakos, then strikes his fists at Sneek and Elizabeth. His tattered red cloak swirls around him as he moves.

Attacks:

Slash Chakos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 131d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Punch Sneek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Punch Sneek: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 81d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Punch Liz: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 181d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

The zombie strikes against Chakos armor and is deflected. His punches miss the nimble Sneek. His last fist catches Liz in the stomach, knocking the air from her.

Everyone's turn.

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

I'll 5' move to flank with someone if possible.

Greataxe: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 2 + 3 = 20
Greataxe Damage: 1d12 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10

Smite damage, so no DR.

Chakos' greataxe glows with light as it cracks the bones of the undead kasatha. The head severs completely, as the corpse falls to the hard metal floor.

Battle is over.

Kasatha Loot:
Two masterwork shortswords, a magical cloak, 4 silverdisks.

Again you see...

A large metal table is surrounded by odd-looking chairs in this room. To the west, what appears to be a transparent wall looks out over a strange desert valley. Four pillars support the fifteen foot-high ceiling, while dozens of crude images of a pickaxe made of a skull and bones have been painted onto the walls with some sort of ivory pigment along with several phrases in an unrecognizable language.

"We need to heal up, but let's do it through me if possible."

I'll take 5 DMG from Astra and 10 from Argug, and hit myself with a CLW.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5

Where do we stand now including the CLW potion Argug drank?

I've got only 5hp.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

"Hah! I knew it!" Astra cries out in delight as she cautiously, peeking carefully around the doorframe, looks into the cleared room. When she sees no more threats there, at least obvious ones, she steps through the door more fully into the room. "The 'Observatory' *was* to observe the desert habitat!" she says victoriously as she moves over to the odd transparent wall. Curiously, she runs her fingers over the material and tries to identify what the window substance is. She'll also try to connect the desert they passed through earlier with the view visible on the transparent wall, and will try to figure out if they are one and the same. As in, is she seeing through the wall into the habitat, or is this a magical display of some other faraway place?

After spending some time on the window, she will move over to the crude wall drawings and writings. "Ooh! Ooh! Look at these! So interesting! So many pickaxes! I wonder if their culture is somehow based on mining. It would make sense since they are here, underground. Perhaps they're some sort of Darklands species heretofore unknown...and they have dwelled under Torch all this time, to think! And the skulls and bones -- could they have been death worshippers of some kind? What a sinister thought! Or perhaps a form of ancestor worship --" she goes on giddily, almost jumping up and down in excitement as she moves from one crude drawing to another to another, the javelin through her chest and any lingering pain all but forgotten. "Oh, look at this! This is writing of some kind, to be sure! Can you imagine, a language never before encountered?", she breathes almost reverently, eyes wide. "I would be willing to bet that the writing in these artworks would correlate with the language the zombie was trying to speak. It mentioned the god Zyphus...is that why so many skulls and bones? That would support my first theory of death worshippers --"

Linguistics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 Dammit! :D

Liz coughs up some blood.Oohhhh...That is for bravery I guess.

HP healedfor Argug from CLW potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Is the writing Androffian? Liz gathers together the sword, cloak and silverdisks

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

Astra shakes her head slowly. "I don't think so...", although she seems a bit more unsure than usual. "At least, not any script I'm familiar with..." A lightbulb comes on over her head, and she glances from the drawings back to the window. "An observatory implies at least two parties. The ones doing the observing...who would likely have been the ones motivated and skilled enough to build the observatory and the habitat...and the ones they are observing. Who would have been the parties involved here, I wonder. So far we've met three distinct forms of life in these metal tunnels -- the mechanical sphere, the four-armed living dead, and the tentacley creature..." She strokes her chin thoughtfully. "I suspect that the level of manual dexterity involved in the construction of all this would have been beyond the tentacle creature -- I expect it would have been a zoo creature, then. A lower form of life, by the standards of the builders. But who are the builders? The mechanical orb, or the four-armed? I could see both of them having the technical skill to build something like this, but who is the master and who is the slave...?"

Female Human

The four armed undead as past builders who died here and perhaps the metal sphere a tool like a golem. The tentacle monster could have been something they studied.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

Astra nods thoughtfully. "That would make sense", she agrees, "although I would not entirely rule out the possibility of reverse roles between the metal creature and the four-armed. It is also noteworthy that they speak different languages. I could understand the metal creature, but not the four-armed. Allies often share a language...could they have been enemies instead? Perhaps the metal creatures invaded, and that is why the four-armed are dead?"

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

"Hmm, yes, an undiscovered language, great stuff. Any signs of the missing people we're here for?"

So I think that brings:

Argug to 14/25
Liz to 8/16
Astra to 13/18
Sneek to 16/20
Chakos to 5/15

Ok, I'll use my last CLW.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 2 = 7

I'm at 12/15

So what's the plan? I recommend resting, we're incredibly beat up.

Female Human

We are rather wounded. I have no more magic except for minor cantrips so pushing on further into this strange building would be unwise. Liz looks around the room. This does seem to be a good defensible position for resting.

Female Human (Kellid) Bard (Archaeologist) 7 (HP 47/47 | AC 20 | Fort +2 Ref +5 Will +5 | Initiative +0 | Perception +13)

"We'd probably do better to withdraw back to Torch for resting, else the water breathing spell on us will expire and we'll have a harder time making our way back through the waters of the Weeping Pond."

Chakos and Liz spellcraft:
The cloak is a cloak of resistance +1.

Astra Linguistics:
You cannot understand the writing on the walls. It looks crude, less sophisticated than Androffan, and not any language or writing you know of.

Options: Rest here, go back to Torch, check red door, check white door, wander desert, search room, something else.

Female Human

This cloak is enchanted to help resist the effects of spells, poisons and so on.

+1 Cloak of Resistance

Argug nods at Chakos in thanks of his spells, and Liz for her potion. "I definitely agree with going back to Torch. The cloak would be beneficial for any of us equally, so why don't we cast lots for it?"

Normally I am in favor of giving treasure to whomever it benefits the most, but as this is good for any of us, I suggest a simple 1d20 roll off
