Mechanic Overload; WhyWireless hack but not Remote hack?

General Discussion

(forgive my late night tired brain writing)
So there is this ability Overload.

So my main confusion is.. why can the exocortic do it at range using that ability? I mean I guess balance wise. if you can do it via drone, the exo can do it via his thing.
but ..Shouldn't both be able to do it via the level 5 "Remote Hack" ability ..they both get?
Then the Exo gets extra range or some sort of action economy benefit.

Is it just because the drone can so they just put in a random arbitration?
The normal Lv 5 exocoretic ability really just helps action economy, and isn't any different than Remote hack right?

OVERLOAD (EX) 3rd Level
......... If you have a drone, you can instead use this ability
on an electronic device adjacent to your drone. If you have an
exocortex with the wireless hack ability, you can instead use this
ability on any electronic device within range of your exocortex’s
wireless hack. I.............

Wrong forum. crap. Started out as a rules question (making sure I understood the rule for overload right) but then it ended up turning into a discussion thing

Well was searching for the answer to this and found myself asking this almost a year ago apparently.

Soo.. I'll just necro this one. Even if my wording and everything there was ..quite fractured

Howdy.
So.. weird thing the level 3 ability (see below) gets to work with the exocortic's wireless hack or drones. That seems normal enough.
but why does it not interact with remote hack at all? Remote hack is for both versions. and while the range sorta overlaps with the exo's, the exo's provides a lot of other benefits..

Does anyone see a reason this ability was made and not allowed to work with the lv 5 ability?

abilities in question:

Remote Hack (Ex) - 5th Level
You can use your custom rig to attempt Computers and Engineering skill checks at a range of 20 feet. At 7th level and every 2 levels thereafter, this range increases by 10 feet. A target of this ability (or a creature attending or observing your target) can attempt a Perception or Sense Motive check (DC = 10 + 1-1/2 × your mechanic level + your Intelligence modifier) to determine that you are the origin of this activity.
Overload (Ex) - 3rd Level
As a standard action, you can cause a short in an electronic device, including most ranged energy weapons, melee weapons with the powered special property, or a single armor upgrade. This makes the device nonfunctional for 1 round. Overload doesn’t cause a locked door, safe, or other device to open, but it prevents anyone from opening it for 1 round. You must be adjacent to the device to use this ability. If you have a drone, you can instead use this ability on an electronic device adjacent to your drone. If you have an exocortex with the wireless hack ability, you can instead use this ability on any electronic device within range of your exocortex’s wireless hack. If you use overload on an item or armor upgrade in someone’s possession, the owner can attempt a Reflex saving throw to negate the effect (DC = 10 + half your mechanic level + your Intelligence modifier). Overload doesn’t affect androids, cybernetics, drones, powered armor, robots, or creatures with the technological subtype (all of which have shielding against this sort of attack), or items larger than Medium. Once a device has been successfully overloaded, a residual static charge prevents that device from being overloaded again for 1 minute. "

My group has two mechanics, an exocortex and a drone. We may have some of the same abilities, but we have to apply them differently. It's nice and makes it feel like we're not copies of each other.

It seems like a balance to make variety. Drone mechanic's can use Overload at the range of their custom rig through their drone. Exocortex mechanic's range is much shorter but doesn't require you to be adjacent to the target.

makes sense.

It is strange to me though. the Exo's ability still works off of remote hack (sorta. they end up with different ranges eventually). and most of the Exo's is about doing it faster.

Kind of wish they both had range, butt the exo could do it as a move or faster action.

but that would overlap into feeling similar to an extent.
