Go Jags

DUVAL!!!!

Woo-hoo! Go Derek Bortles!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Not even Derek Bortles can overcome the inevitability of Frankenhand Brady.

I was so hoping.

Oh well.

I thought we should of went for it at the end of the first half.

At least they didn't epically collapse like the Vikings......

Did the Vikings even show up...

According to NFL Rule 63a, if the Patriots are losing a game by halftime, the referees must begin calling penalties on the other team until they are in the lead. Sometimes the ref's don't follow this rule, but thankfully yesterday they did. I don't agree with all of the NFL's rules, but they still must be followed.

I was only kind of watching the game, I saw the opening drive... then every time I came back to check the score the Eagles had another TD. It's probably just as well, if the Vikings made it to the Super Bowl and THEN lost, it only would have been worse.

I disagree. I didnt care if the vikes lost the SB, I just wanted MN to be the first team to play the SB in their home town.

Now Vikes are really in a bad situation with 3 QBs up for contracts. (I dont think any of them are worth big bucks.)

To all Jags fans I need to let you know that Blake Bortles will not be the starting QB for your team next year. He will be traded away for a new (and better) QB, and that man will be Eli Manning.

Well, I don't think Keenum is in the running for starting job. They kept him as the starter just for consistency and team spirit. So it's either Bradford or Bridgewater, honestly I'd just pick whichever is cheaper, and no more than $20m. The defense is so good that we got to the NFC championship with a backup QB, continue to shore up weaknesses there and you have a much more consistent team than spending all the money on QB and having them go down every season in game 4 for the whole season.

Or beef up the O-line, and make it easier for any QB to play and improve your running game.

Interestingly, we might be on a similar trajectory as the Bears were in the early 2000's. Strong defense, inconsistent offense. Stay competitive for a couple years, then bottom out once your defense starts to retire.

The Jags want to get to the Superbowl now and not in 5 years. Eli Manning has two Superbowl rings. He knows what it takes to get to the Big Game. He will be the new QB.

You are probably right and Zim is very likely to follow that. However, god hes a boring ass coach. His style wins when it works but it doesnt take much to turn everything upside down on him. Id love to see Vikes do something big like try and sign Cousins but they will probably fall back on guys with bum knees because "a D this good doesnt need a QB"......

Until I googled the Vikings, I briefly pondered this Zim as their coach. Which would be... different.

I think he knows he needs a good QB, but also that it's a big gamble. If you pay Cousins $25m/year, that's a lot of cap room that can pay for more players. No matter who you pay, there's a chance they go down with a knee injury and that money is now wasted.

Look at Detroit, Stafford is actually a really good quarterback and worth the money, but having that great quarterback (and one of the best receivers in the league when they still had Calvin Johnson) didn't turn into playoff wins. The Patriots have the greatest QB of all time, but he's so bought into the system that he doesn't demand a top salary, allowing them to pay for other players. For a decade, Indianapolis had one of the best QBs in the league and two receivers in the top 10 in the league, but couldn't get past the Patriots.

You need a good QB to be competitive, but the rest of the team needs to be really good too if you want to win playoff games.

Also, you need to be an outdoor team.

The one thing Zim has that Manning/Harrison or Stafford/mega don't is a really good D. Sure you can try and bring the average up or you can make a move and grab a good QB. What is there to lose in this age of fast changing coaches? Besides, seriously, how many great Ds and below average QBs win the SB? I can think of elder Manning, Sims, and Dillfer. Maybe Flacco, but id say he is at least average.
