Mystic as a psychic assassin?


Advice


Seems pretty possible. How viable are save or sick spells, like mind thrust? Anyone have a good idea of how to go about it?

Well, the Mindbreaker Connection is what you'd obviously want to go for if you want to play a Psychic Assassin. You'd also want to maximize your Wisdom and grab Spell Focus to get your Saving Throw DCs as high as possible.

Elf is probably the race that would best help this concept, since it gets you a bonus to overcoming spell resistance.


Oi! My second character is this :D I personally went Human Priest Mystic [Mindbreaker] to max Wisdom and for flavor. She's a former Priestess of Iomedae who was recruited by the Stewards to be a psychic interrogator. Eventually, she became a Field Operative till an incident happened that made her leave the Stewards to freelance :)

I haven't played her yet, but my goal with her was Combat Control and Support. As Mystic, she offered some healing. Outside combat, her connection (as I have found Bluff to be amazingly useful in PF) and Charm Person would assist in RPing needs. In combat at level 1, I have Wisp Ally set-up in case our Operative isn't there (which he usually isn't when needed) and Mind Thrust gonna save to finish off baddies, since even if they succeed the Will save, they still take half.

However, I took Longarm Proficency feat instead of Spell Focus because I wanted a weapon with range and to stay back. We'll see. I'm afraid I'll burn through my 3 level 1 spell slots in battle and would have to rely on moving close to enemies. With Longarm Proficency and a hunting rifle, I could fall back and maintain some sort of harassing firing. *shrug* As the flavor of a Mystic with her trust rifle sounded cool :p


So would save or die/suck spells cut it damage wise, with spell focus? Damage wise, will I be able to keep up with my more martial compatriots?

Well, looking at level 13 or so, you do 82.5 damage assuming they fail their Save at DC 24. If it's their bad Save, they'll have a +12 or so, so they'll make the save on a 12, which averages something like 64 damage.

A Soldier with Sharpshoot of the same level, using a Seeker Rifle can be doing 6d10+2d6+13 with three attacks for +17/+17/+17 to hit vs. AC 27 or so. Which averages 87.45 not counting criticals...

That's a very optimized ranged character, of course.And, on the other hand, Mind Thrust is a Standard Action not a Full Attack, and not your only option by that level. A better than 50% shot with Dominate Person or Feeblemind is a much better option, and an available one.
