How would you build something akin to Rygel from Farscape?

Advice

Grand Lodge

Rygel performs so many different roles throughout the course of the series that several classes seem like viable options. Envoy, Mechanic, and/or Operative seem like possibilities. Maybe even multi-classing...

I'm not necessarily wanting to make an exact copy of Rygel, but something with the same kind of feel...Formerly a big muckety muck, now he has to survive on his own and do things for himself. Smart, non-physical, small, often underestimated, wants to lead (though not necessarily good at it).

What do you guys think?

User name checks out.

As for Rygel, I'd make a multiclass of mechanic (ride your drone around!) and operative with the thief subtype.

That level 11 ability on the thief is perfect for Rygel.

As soon as you said Rygel I immediately thought of Envoy but Operative is a really good one. Mechanic not so much because his throne-sled doesn't really do anything but carry him around.
Halfling might be a good race for this character, as well.

Liberty's Edge

Personally, I'd go straight Envoy. If you'll notice, all the technical skills are available as Expertise Skills for the Envoy. Those and the social skills (mostly Bluff) really do sum up most of Rygel's particular skill set.

The float chair is more equipment than it is a drone, and there are several ways to fly with equipment.

Halfling and Ysoki both work well mechanically, but I'd go Ysoki for theme. Everyone actually likes Halflings.

Why not make him a goblin?

Certainly also a valid option.

I need to read up a bit more on the Envoy. Right now, it seems like the most logical choice...kind of a space bard...but without the music. Maybe go mainly Envoy with a 2 level dip into Operative to grab Operative's edge, some free skill focus feats, and evasion.

The thing that sticks in my mind was a quote by an actor on the show that went something like this "In season 3 we realized that we could throw the puppet around. And the show got much better after that."

In general I am often torn on allowing players to play this type of character (kender is another) as they can be very disrupting at the table and can take away for other more important things.
Do not get me wrong, humor is important but if it becomes too important often the game suffers.

Ysoki

Theme: Icon (profession: Dictator) OR Priest: Religion-Self

Envoy (Dispiriting taunt and Not in the Face)
OR
Operative (Thief) The sleight of hands fits the theme for Trick Attack ("Look over there!!" Zap!!)

Grand Lodge

I am thinking Ysoki Icon Envoy with at least a 2 level dip into Thief Operative to nab Operative's Edge, a few Skill Focus Feats, and Evasion.

Now I just need to figure out how to lay out the stats...Maybe something along the lines of 8 Str, 15 Dex, 10 Con, 14 Int, 10 Wis, 16 Cha?

I'd go for that level 11 Thief operative ability, then tack on a few levels of Envoy for some of its abilities to round it out.
