Rules Questions

Second Seekers (Roheas)

Building a Sarcesian PC, I wondered if there were rules for damage on larger weapons.

I know in SFS 1-00 Claim for Salvation the boss character has scaled up weapons for his size so I am pretty sure its a rule but I cannot find it anywhere else

Nope. Weapons don't do more damage for being bigger in Starfinder.

Second Seekers (Roheas)

I mean there were a number of errors in that scenario, so its possible you're right but still.

In Starfinder, baddies don't follow the same rules as PCs for the most part.

Second Seekers (Roheas)

It was a baddie using specific equipment listed in the CRB with different stats - it would stand to reason that there was some sort of size scaling being used

If the rules are different for other sizes, that information would be in the Alien Archive book. I was a bit surprised to notice that all of the polymorph spells are currently missing from Core. But it may be because those spells are in that future book, along with the rules for playing stranger creatures. We already know the monster summoning spells are going to be in there.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Think of Starfinder weapons as USB drives. The actual functioning part is tiny; the rest of the bulk is for the convenience of the user.

Second Seekers (Roheas)

Yeah very few people are going to buy that.

Alien Archive should clarify this a bit and I hope it does.

I really won't like having to go "Yeah you disarmed that gun from the creature but all it does is give you a -4 to hit and for some reason way less damage than it did for him"

It won't. If a weapon deals 2d8, it will always deal 2d8 no matter who wields it.

The weapons in the CRB are for players, if a creature is supposed to have a large or larger weapon, its going to be an NPC weapon with appropriate damage for its CR.

So a CR 11 Cloud Giant will have a sword that deals 4d8 slashing damage, while a CR 13 Storm Giant will have a sword that deals 4d10 slashing damage, despite both weapons being Huge. Why would these weapons deal different amounts of damage? For the same reason some monsters have +1 weapons and others have +2 weapons. For the same reason that a normal longsword deals 1d8 and a sintered longsword 2d8. One's simply a better weapon than the other.

Second Seekers (Roheas)

That is really drifting back into 2e "its like this because its like this" territory which I'm definitely not a fan of.

So yeah I will continue to hope they publish guidance on this instead of just well "a Cloud Giant Sword (which you cannot find anywhere except on a Cloud Giant, suck it players, yes even players playing larger than medium races) is better because its better and doesnt actually resemble another piece of equipment, even if they literally have the same name.

Like....thats dumb
