Alright, so. I've got a level 5 kitsune character. 3 rogue (True Professional, Bakuto), 2 Monk (Maneuver Master).
Size: Small
STR 9
DEX 20
CON 12
INT 16
WIS 10
CHA 15
I'm planning to put the last four points I get into dex.
~Magic Tail (x3) (Yes, I know. This and the other 5 impede a bit. There's back-story reasons I don't feel like delving into at this time. At least some of the feats are going to be supplemented with FC points.)
~Kyubi Awakening (claws)
~Stunning Fist
~Agile Maneuvers
~Improved unarmed strikes
~Improved Grapple
~Kraken Style
~Martial weapon proficiency (from the True Professional)
~Exotic Weapon Proficiency [Dan Bong] (Before it's mentioned, my GM has agreed that a weapon expressly designed to aid in grappling should not incur the -4 hit to not having both hands free when grappling as a humanoid, so we're clear there.)
~~~ I'm already planning Greater Grappling when I qualify for it, I think... 9? 10? (GM lets us "save" feats until we qualify for what we want, if we wish.)
~~~Would Weapon Focus (Dan Bong) and Weapon Focus (grappling) stack?
(short version: character's broke because of an RP screw up. I tried to make an opalescent white pyramid ioun stone keyed to Dan Bong. I pooched the last roll by one freaking point, because my GM is using the Dynamic Crafting rules.):
Geranite or Horacalcum Dan Bong (+1 circumstance bonus, for the win)
Brawler enchanted "armor" (probably Bracers of Armor).
~~~ This is one instance where slapping the full +5 on a weapon isn't actually a bad thing, since that's also another +5 to the grappling.
~~~Teeeechnically manacles are an option, but Huge dragons tend to have +9 or more on their str checks. So, Mithral is on the list, but I know huge Whites have 35 str... so is there anything that would increase the break DC? :P
~~~Planning to use dex and str items.
Obviously I've done SOME homework, but a lot of the resources I've found were several years old. I would greatly appreciate advice. Equally obviously, third party stuff is acceptable. I'm PLANNING to take the character at least two levels into the Kyubi Paragon class, maaaaaybe more. I'd LIKE to go whole hog and go all ten, but I doubt that's gunna happen.
I'm not looking to deal damage, cripple, or even kill anything with this build. I'm looking to purely maximize CMB, specifically as it pertains to grappling. If at ALL possible, I'd like to beat a 39. I know it's a tall order, but I'm already at a +12, and I don't even have the gear yet.
Weapon Focus (Grapple) isn't a thing, grappling isn't a weapon. Typically Weapon Focus (Unarmed Strike) would apply for grappling, but probably not if you're using a different weapon to grapple with.
You'll probably want to get Gauntlets of the Skilled Maneuver.
You'll need to get a ruling on this from your GM but maybe Dueling on your Dan Bong. There's two different weapon qualities with that name, I'm talking about the one from the Pathfinder Society Field Guide, check the link. It specifically doesn't allow grapple, but that's because grapple isn't something you typically do with a weapon.
Choose one type of weapon. You can also choose unarmed strike or grapple (or ray, if you are a spellcaster) as your weapon for the purposes of this feat.
WF: Unarmed would generally not count towards your Grapple as you would use WF: Grapple. There are many threads about arguing about this, so we'll just say OP should check with his GM.
A Dusty Rose Ioun Stone slotted into a Wayfinder grants either +1 or +2 insight bonus to CMB/CMD depending on which version your GM prefers to use (it was recently nerfed).
Gauntlets of the Maneuver Master grants a +2 untyped bonus to your Grapple CMB
Celestial Obedience (Falayna) would give you a +4 sacred bonus.
An Ioun stone with 1-spell level of storage gives you the opportunity to load it with True Strike for a +20 insight bonus...which will probably give you the most bang for your buck for the big moment.
Artoo, as Sammy points out, it's literally in the feat description. So, I gotta assume that it's a thing or it wouldn't be there.
Sammy, if I'm reading it right... her obedience... isn't even a feat one? It's just "worship this chick, do this thing for an hour, have fun with the pile driver"? The rest of that, yippy! Thanks! Might elect for potions rather than the ioun stone, but this is definitely an excellent start.
That's another 8 points I can get tacked on without even counting str or dex item, enhancement bonuses, or anything else. *adds all that to his list of stuff*
He's referring to the feat Celestial Obedience that you can take later down the line to grant a +4 Bonus to your grappling check.
Zarius, also be aware that since none of your classes remove the penalty for being grappled, you'll be taking a -4 penalty to DEX which translates to -2 CMB and CMD.The CMB hit isn't that bad as your target takes a -2 to their CMD (so it's a wash) but your CMD goes down by 2 and makes it easier for them to escape the grapple.
Dark, I see. Thank you for the clarification. That's still another +4 to grapples, though, so worth it to me to spend a feat on it.
And Sammy, aye. The up side is that I get two grapples a round, so I can technically have them pinned in one go, if I get good rolls. And I don't actually have to use my Move action.
