Need help optimizing the Resilient Illusions feat ...

Advice

Hey Folks,

For an upcoming 11th level human wizard diviner [Foresight Archetype], I'd like to optimize the build around the arcane discovery/feat Resilient Illusions. Please don't recommend other races or classes as both are already set in stone with the GM. Restricted schools are Enchantment & Evocation.

I really like Resilient Illusions, so I'm trying to find as many feats, spells, traits, magic items & alchemical items/reagents that will have synergy with this arcane discovery. In essence, maximizing CL on my illusion spells will be key (such as the Varisian Tattoo: Illusion feat). Any recommendations you may have on structuring this build will be quite helpful!

Thank you.

One of my favorite uses for Resilient Illusions is boosting spells like shadow conjuration and shadow evocation, since it changes the DC for the entire spell once they attempt a save to disbelieve.

For the Shadow Conj/Evoc spells, I think Resilient Illusions only applies to the Disbelief save (for Will). Not any additional saves that the simulated spell requires.

On the other hand, I think you're right in regards to using Resilient Illusions with an illusion spell like Silent or Major Image.

Orange Prism Ioun Stone (magic item)
Outlander: Lore Seeker (trait)

Spell Perfection (feat)
Spell Specialization (feat)
Varisian Tattoo: Illusion (feat)

That nets you +8 caster level with a single spell (which will always be the most powerful/versatile illusion spell you have if you retrain for it).

Good thoughts from Ravingdork. I also think that your key spells for this trick will be Shadow Conjuration and Shadow Evocation. Focusing on the shadow spells gives you huge flexibility and Resilient Illusions really boosts the Will save DC to disbelieve. (I agree with your interpretation on that, btw.)

Edit: Also worth mentioning the usual tricks for metamagic reduction (traits like Magical Lineage) and the Persistent metamahic feat. Really good way to make one of those Shadow spells stick, since it should apply both to the disbelief save and any additional save.

The hallucination line of spells would be good candidates for a build such as this I think. You can really mess with people this way, especially with the higher level versions.

Just imagine a permanent hallucination that causes water to look, feel, smell, and taste like blood. Or create an annoying fairy that never stops talking. Or make the victims think that they are on fire, feeling the heat and burning, but never dying or being able to put it out. The imagination is the limit.
