Hello everyone!
I’m Tyler, aka Cartmanbeck. We’re about to be part of a grand experiment, isn’t that exciting?!
So, this recruitment thread will be for EIGHT players to play on two play-by-post virtual tables of the card game version of #8-00: Cosmic Captive, here on the Paizo forums. We will be running this in concert with several play-by-post virtual tables of the RPG version of the scenario, and there will be some interaction with those tables.
Player Requirements:
-Own a PACG character deck with a card guild character that has been assigned a PFS number. Characters of tier 1-6 can all participate (but see specifics about tier ranges below).
-Have a way of keeping track of your character’s hand, discard pile, buried cards, etc. I have a Google Sheets worksheet that I use for this which I’m happy to share with you and explain how to use.
-Post REGULARLY, at least once daily. The nature of PACG scenarios is that we’re on a timer (the blessings deck) and will generally play close to 30 turns in a game. This means that it can theoretically take a full month to get through one scenario, and there are FOUR scenarios in the Cosmic Captive adventure, so we want to get through them in significantly less time than four months.
That’s it! Hawkmoon and I will keep track of the scenario powers, randomization of cards from the box, all that kind of stuff, with a custom database that he created. He and I will each be running a table, and these two tables can support only four players each. Characters at each table must be in the same tier range, with the ranges being 1-3 or 4-6. So, in an ideal world, we’d have four players with equal tier characters between 1-3 at one table, and four of them between 4-6 for the second table.
HMM has been kind enough to create a sign-up sheet which you can find here: Cosmic Captive Sign-ups. As you'll see when you click that link, our two tables are on the very top-left of the sheet (the two orange ones). The first eight players to sign up will get precedence, but I reserve the right to adjust the players around to get two legal tables.
An important point to remember here is that we are testing out a BRAND NEW way of playing PACG organized play, and this is very much a trial run. If it goes well, I hope to expand this and start a community of play-by-post players, but we need to show the organized play higher-ups that the games can be played efficiently and fairly to everyone on this play-by-post medium.
That’s it for now, sign up if you want to play, and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me at cartmanbeck@gmail.com or private-message me on these forums. Thanks!
Tyler

Sounds like fun! I'll put my name on the sheet later today once I can get a chance to go through the characters to see what I'd like to play (and maybe see what others are playing).

skizzerz |

I've got a zillion characters and can swap to low tier if we don't end up with other higher tier characters.
I'll jump on the high tier one with you, just need to grind up a character first (all my high tier characters are tier 7...). Should have plenty of time to do that in a month :)
Will probably only take them up to tier 4 though so I can jump into other PbPs/cons with the same character, unless you think there are issues with doing a mix of tiers at the same table? EDIT: just saw that cartmanbeck recommended equal tier characters, so I'll grind up to 6 on Season of the Plundered Tombs.

Just signed up for the Tier 1-3 table with Ranger Arabundi. Looking forward to experiment with playing PACG across the globe :) If the tables are full before mid-june, will play begin earlier?
Since this is part of a multi table special, we can't start early (and sometimes during play, things that the RPG tables do might have an impact on us at our two card game tables!)

Alright, I inventoried my characters, and came up with the following:
I'm not sure if my Cleric at 6.6 can play actually... In theory he could play more tier 6 S&S adventures
Characters cannot advance
beyond Tier 6, but may continue playing scenarios in any
one AD6 adventure that character already started.
cartmanbeck can you clarify?
Assuming that's the case I'll get one of my characters up to Tier 4 in time.

skizzerz |

If we're allowed to use characters who have already fully completed a season, then I have a Rogue and a Cleric I can play. I just assumed that such characters were off-limits.

zeroth_hour2 |

I have at least 1 requisite character I can play, but on the other hand I'm also expected to head to AX early July (and July is probably meh for me period, lots of stuff). Should I sign up or should I cancel?
I'm interested in the expanding the PbP community as well. Have the people in BGG ever been interested in PbP Organized Play?

@Rob and Skizzers:
You cannot play a character that has finished 6 adventures (because finishing adventure 6 would automatically level the character up to tier 7).
The high tier is technically a Tier 5 adventure, which means that it can be played by Tier 4, 5 or 6.
So basically, if you have a character who has finished an entire adventure path, that character is not eligible. (Plus Cosmic Captive gives you a full tier, so playing it with such a character would be kinda a waste). This means if you want to grind up a character for high-tier, I would recommend you play an adventure path from adventure 1 through adventure 4 or 5, your preference. Just don't play that last adventure! :)
@Lepley:
If you have assigned the PFS # that you got to your online account (which you would have had to do using the activation code on the bottom of your PFS # card that the GM would have given to you) then you should be able to click on the Pathfinder Society icon near the top-left of this screen, then click "Register a character" and it should show you if you have any current ones. If you didn't do that, you might need to get a new PFS number, which you can do through the same mechanism I just described.

Do you have a thread somewhere of a previous ACG scenario played by PbP, so we can get a sense of how this will work, in practice?
Sounds like they might have a different way of handling the box side of things, but I do remember this thread which might serve as an example: Scenario 1-1A: Cloven Trail (WotR)

The post above is a sample of what the summary cartmanbeck and I will be posting looks like. In this example, it is my turn and I'm playing Sajan.
You can see the adventure and scenario powers at the top.
Next is the turn number, with the character and player noted.
Then is the top blessing on the blessings discard pile.
Then comes a spoiler to let you see the text of that top blessing if you want.
Then the number of blessings left in the blessings deck.
After that the locations start. The first location is "Fake Location" the counts tell you how many of each type of card are left. The ? number is used for henchmen, villains, and other things you shouldn't know (blessings become ? after the villain escapes in a typical scenario).
The locations tell you the location powers, which characters are there, and have a list of the cars in the location behind spoiler buttons.
The second location is "Pretend Location" and shows how a closed location will appear.
Often times, we will also post the next few blessings in the blessings deck. That way, if the players are moving faster than we can check it, you can keep playing. We'll just spoil them like this:
Next I'll post what my turn would look like.

Oh man. They are filling up fast. Looks like the card guild tables will be among the first to fill up.
There is a reason for that. I haven't announced the RPG tables to the players yet! I wanted to make certain all the GMs were good with their assignments before I broadcast my recruitment spread sheet. (Yes, I know some RPG players have found their way to the sheet a little early because of your posts here... Oh well.)
BTW, if you guys decide that you want to open up a third table and can find a qualfied GM that you trust, let me know pronto. This is an experiment, and I'm willing to expand it out if this option is popular and you have some folks you trust. I don't want to get too big though... so only expand with caution and if you have someone really reliable for that third GM.

Hawkmoon269 |

I'm going to use this color to talk about things I'm putting in my turn. Some of this will vary depending on how you manage your cards and decide to add that data to the thread.
This is a summary of my character. You can start your turn with it, but you should always end your turn with it. I'm starting with it hear so you know what Sajan has.
Skills and Powers:Hand: Khepresh of Refuge, Effigy of Anubis, Khelru, Blessing of the Elements, Blessing of the ElementsSkills STRENGTH d6
DEXTERITY d10 +1
-ACROBATICS: DEXTERITY +2
CONSTITUTION d6 +1
-FORTITUDE: CONSTITUTION +2
INTELLIGENCE d6
WISDOM d8 +3
CHARISMA d6Powers
HAND SIZE 4 ☑ 5 ☐ 6
For your combat check, you may roll your Dexterity die (☑ you may add the Magic trait) (☐ and/or the Fire trait); you may not play a weapon on the check.
You may play any number of blessings on your combat check; recharge them instead of discarding them.
Deck: 14 Discard: 6 Buried: 1 Displayed: 0
Sajan explores Fake Location. The top card is... At this point I'd click the Fake Location Card 1 spoiler button to see what the card is.
Fake Monster. I'll use my magical fists to inflict destruction on him.Combat 4: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Success on that one. Now Acrobatics.
Acrobatics 12: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Success on that too. But my Acrobatics isn't Magical, so the Fake Monster is undefeated. Plus the location would also make it undefeated. This is going to be a hard scenario.
Now, at this point, you have a problem. You need the "GM" to shuffle the cards. But you don't want to wait for that. So, instead, you can roll a die to shuffle them.
I'll discard a blessing to explore.
Random Card out of 4: 1d4 ⇒ 3
So, I'm going to encounter what was previously card 3 above.
Card 3. That is... Fake Villain!
Well, I don't want to die, so I'll go with Divine 12.
Divine 12: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Failed. Hand wipe.
At this point, you will have to wait for the GM to handle the escaping villain. Except, this is the only open location, so we don't.
I'm going to end my turn there.
Skills and Powers:Hand: Mistform, Game of Afterlife, Khai-Utef, Blessing of the Ancients, Blessing of the ElementsSkills STRENGTH d6
DEXTERITY d10 +1
-ACROBATICS: DEXTERITY +2
CONSTITUTION d6 +1
-FORTITUDE: CONSTITUTION +2
INTELLIGENCE d6
WISDOM d8 +3
CHARISMA d6Powers
HAND SIZE 4 ☑ 5 ☐ 6
For your combat check, you may roll your Dexterity die (☑ you may add the Magic trait) (☐ and/or the Fire trait); you may not play a weapon on the check.
You may play any number of blessings on your combat check; recharge them instead of discarding them.
Deck: 9 Discard: 10 Buried: 1 Displayed: 0
Anyone can use that Mistform (2 dice to defeat Barriers with the Obstacle or Trap trait) or one of the blessings I have, but leave me one blessing for my turn.
I post my character situation at the end of the turn and call out which cards other can use. Feel free to give conditions in that like I did about only using one of my blessings.

Hawkmoon269 |

If the GM happened along at this point, they would post a new game summary. If not, the next player would just go provided they didn't need to wait for the GM for something like a fleeing villain. They could look at the blessing posted behind the spoiler above.
And that is pretty much it. cartmanbeck has a spreadsheet you can use to help with your deck. You can type the names of the cards into it to make it easy to post to the forum. It won't look exactly like what I had above, but it will be similar.
The important thing is to provide info to the other players so they can make decisions about using your cards. So, let them know what you are willing to let others use from what you have, both cards and character powers.
I hope that makes enough sense. If you have questions, please ask.

![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for posting all that, Hawk!
The only other point I'd like to make is that I suggest that anytime you are using someone else's cards, or generally want another player to see something you're doing, put it in bold tags. I generally skim other player's turn posts looking for bold text to make sure no one has used up all my blessings before I explore, etc.
Once the tables are firmed up, I'll PM each of you asking for an email address to share my Google Sheet to you with (that's also how I'll end up getting you the chronicle sheet at the end of the game) which will help you deal with hand, draw deck, discards, etc.

I'm interested in the expanding the PbP community as well. Have the people in BGG ever been interested in PbP Organized Play?
I guess I'm a person in BGG and would be interested in PbP organized play. I didn't sign up for this because I'm travelling the week it starts. Cartmanbeck, color me interested for the next time.

Wait, I have questions!
So do you two have campaign threads for your tables yet? If you don't, feel free to set them up in the Play-by-Post forum. If your table is full, you won't need a recruitment thread.
I am assuming that I am going to spam my overseer announcements across your two gameplay threads as well as over the RPG tables, yes? Also... I think both your tables want to be the same tier for *cough* reasons. Maybe you should just make everyone low tier.
Hmm

zeroth_hour2 |

cartmanbeck and hawkmoon, I can GM a third table instead if you want (and I've GM'd a PbP game already); the only kicker is that I will likely be travelling late July - early August for 2-3 weeks (it's not finalized yet). I'm also going to AX during early July but that's a little easier to work around.
Are you interested in opening up a third ACG table? I presume it'll be Tier 1-3.

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure this all started with you. Playing in that scenario was what lead me to explore the possibilities of the tags in the forums and to design something to manage a box and generate the text for the forums.

skizzerz |

2 low tier tables is fine by me, means less work I have to do :)
If we do convert cartmanbeck's table to low-tier, just change my tier from 5 to 2. Having a die bump available will be handy, I think.

skizzerz |

When I played in this scenario, I played as a new character. My hope was to basically take a character and use them in this and (hopefully) future specials. I ran a CD Sajan. I wrote all his info down on the sheet and put it away somewhere safely until the next special.
I ran the numbers and as long as this does not give more than 1 tier (i.e. it is at most 6 scenarios), it should be possible to run through the entirety of this and still complete the entirety of a season AP. The only way the math doesn't work out is if every adventure in the season has 6 scenarios, as you will need to at least once choose to not tier up after completing an adventure so that you play at least one scenario of AD6 before reaching the end of tier 6. Per the Guide, you can then play the remainder of AD6 since you do not tier up to 7, and you have already started that adventure.
Scenario Tier
------------------------------------------------------
CC-A 1.1
CC-B 1.2
CC-C 1.3
CC-D 1.4
3-1A 1.5 2.1
3-1B 1.6 2.2
3-1C 2.1 2.3
3-1D 2.2 2.4
3-1E 2.3 2.5
3-2A 2.4 3.1
3-2B 2.5 3.2
3-2C 2.6 3.3
3-2D 3.1 3.4
3-2E 3.2 3.5
3-3A 3.3 4.1
3-3B 3.4 4.2
3-3C 3.5 4.3
3-3D 3.6 4.4
3-3E 4.1 4.5
3-4A 4.2 5.1
3-4B 4.3 5.2
3-4C 4.4 5.3
3-4D 4.5 5.4
3-4E 4.6 5.5
3-5A 5.1 6.1
3-5B 5.2 6.2
3-5C 5.3 6.3
3-5D 5.4 6.4
3-5E 5.5 6.5
3-6A 6.1 6.6
(and so on, since you played an AD6 scenario before hitting 6.6 in the second track, you can complete AD6 and therefore complete the AP. The first track catches up to regular progression at the beginning of AD5, so you have enough wiggle room to do another up to 6-scenario special once you hit tier 5 and still complete the full AP)

I've just signed up for this, using either one of a couple of characters I built for Season 0 (I guess I'll have to convert the L3 Kyra to the tier system, but Seoni is unplayed)
Feel free to pick whichever character is the better fit for a table
Kyra looks like a better pick in my opinion, since Seoni would be duplicating effort with Feiya. When converting her over to the tier system, just make sure that she hasn't played more than 2 scenarios in tier 3, otherwise she'll be tier 4 before we finish the special (which won't work). You could also just roll a completely new character :)
(we should probably discuss this further in the PbP discussion thread so as to not clog up this thread with table-specific logistics)
