help with background for chaotic evil tiefling PC

Wrath of the Righteous

Hello! I’ve recently started running WotR as GM and my players are at neathholm.
a new player wants to join my group and we decided to start as a CE character! I need some ideas with running the background for the new player (I do a separate background session with every player) I’m currently thinking the tiefling rogue to work as an assassin for Hosila but after failing to murder chief sull some days ago Hosila enslaved and tortured the tiefling as a punishment for failure. I plan my players to Free the tiefling treating her wounds and offering altruistic help to her and as a result to gradually start felling the need to reevaluate her values until she becomes good! My player already likes the concept as most of his previous characters were paladins! But I want to start earlier her story and that’s were I need help! I want her starting playing in the worldwound but I there aren’t any informations in the first books.. any ideas where to look?

Generally speaking WotR is not a good AP for tiefling as they are pretty much universally hated and persecuted in Mendev...and truer more within the Worldwound non-evil settlement.

I would recommend reading the Worldwound campaign setting book/pdf for ideas of where to start him as even Sarkoris would not really be a good spotfor him, you'don't need something further north I think.

Gonna disagree with the above, Tieflings are f$!*ing awesome for WotR. There was the Third "Crusade" which was a witch hunt for Tieflings AND Aasimars and pretty much anyone who wasn't a human worshiper of Iomedae.

While you would probably face prejudice going into towns (like you would most everywhere else)... you don't really go into towns and deal with people in WoTR, what with whole demons invading and s+@&. Tieflings are perfectly viable for this campaign.

But could a CE character work for this campaign? As I have not read or played it, I cannot tell but it seems like it would be hard to fit a CE character in WotR.

Silver Crusade

Well a big thing about WotR is redemption so if everyone is on board with an Evil character working their way up to Good it's certainly possible.

Evil looking for redemption sounds like a great concept indeed, I always loved that kind of stories.
But from what I heard (and I have to say again that I have not read the AP because I don't want to spoil it because I might play it someday) it doesn't seem an evil character that doesn't want to redeem could work.

Oh yeah, definitely wouldn't work if you were just wanting to play an Evil character.

But the description the OP gave makes think they are going for the Redemption angle.
