Mithril Falcata

Hey guys, this is aimed at dms for the most part. I've spent a few hours googling this topic trying to get a clear answer for my dm. To lay it out, I'm trying to understand the rules for wielding a Large Falcata 2 handed. From my internetting, I can see that typically if you move a size class you take a -2 to attack rolls. But since it is originally a 1 handed weapon, shouldn't moving it up 1 class just make it a 2 handed falcata without the -2? I have seen arguments going in both directions, but I would think that making it out of mithril would negate the debuff given that it will weigh the same as the 1 handed form.

Tldr, DM's would you be willing to take the -2 away from a weapon that goes up from a 1 handed medium weapon to a large 1 handed weapon if you 2 hand it. And if that's not enough/not okay then if the weapon were made out of mithril instead then 2 handing it?

Mithril does absolutely nothing to lower penalties.

As for the larger size it's not just because it's bigger but because it's improperly sized. That's where the -2 comes from. Just like if a Human tried to wield a small greatsword, improperly sized for them so they take a -2

No. Size changes don't change the weapon. 1 handed vs 2 handed isn't a 'class,' it's an inherent property to each weapon, so there is no such thing as a 'two-handed falcata'. A shortspear isn't just spear with a different handedness or size, it is a different weapon.

Changing weapon size increases the damage die, and inflict a -2 penalty per size category difference between the wielder and the weapon.

Light weapons are 2 sizes smaller than creatures they are intended for, one handed weapons are one size smaller, and two handed is the same size.
As the equipment chapter notes there is a big difference between the designated size of the wielder and the actual size of the weapon.

So a medium creature would also have to wield a large falcata as a two handed weapon. Barring feats or other nonsense, in the same way the halfling in the example would have to use a human's longsword in two hands, a human would have to use an ogre's (or other large critter) falcata in two hands. But this doesn't actually make the falcata a two handed weapon, just that the human requires two hands to use it.

Mithral does nothing relevant. In fact it explicitly states it doesn't affect the ease of use (light, one handed or two handed).

tl;dr: No. You have to use it in two hands AND soak the -2, barring some feat or effect that says otherwise. Or keep enlarge person on tap and use it while enlarged (as long as you put the weapon down before being enlarged, otherwise it gets enlarged as well, and you still have the same problem)
