Asmodean Cleric

Advice

So I have ran him twice, and i think due to being level 1 it hasnt seemed terribly effective as most enemies die before they get to attack, but.....

I have a level 1 asmodean advocate who is negative channeling focused with an 18 cha and 16 wis. I currently use the ale alternative channel to nauseate my foes. I can selectively channel 4 targets out of my way, and have only been forced to hit a party member once, save dc is 16 and they made it. I am wondering what peoples thoughts on these alternatives for channeling negative energy. Also, do you think saving up for the phylactery would be useful? I have one more adventure before being locked in at level 2, so i have time to check out suggestions and try them. UI was considering the slow + confusion versions but nauseating the enemies seems far more effective imo. Thoughts?

no one has an opinion?

What is the source for the nauseated condition?

Asmodean Advocate would be under Variant Channeling Contracts/Oaths, Justice/Law or Trickery (I would imagine) and I am not seeing the nauseated condition described in any of those.

The closest Paizo variant is the sickened condition, but that would be granted from a god of disease.

Is the variant effect from 3pp? If so - cannot offer an opinion, our groups do not play 3pp.

Sovereign Court

Why would you focus on channeling with the Advocate? The archetype lets you use social skills off Profession (wisdom), it's excellent dumping Charisma completely, going full caster and still being an extreme diplomancer.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have an Asmodean Advocate I plan to use for Hell's Vengeance myself, and had never considered variant channeling. I still won't use it, but it is a flavorful option if that is one wishes to go for.

Like Ascalaphus mentioned, I am doing mine diplomacy / bluff / feint build, since Asmodean Advocate uses Profession Barrister as Diplomacy, and Bluff, Lucien will start with a +12 or better in those at 1st level with 18 Wisdom.

And then I am taking a spear as my primary go-to (I'll wear a mace, but Asmodeus used a spear in the first act of betrayal against his brother, so Lucien is so pedantic a traditionalist he uses a spear.)

The phrase "I have one more adventure before being locked in at level 2" makes me suspect you are playing PFS. For PFS, what mardaddy said is very important. You can only take a variant channel if the deity has that item as part of his or her portfolio. Asmodeus does not have ale/wine in his portfolio.

Having said that I did play a cleric of Asmodeus and the contracts/oaths variant can be quite effective if you follow it up the next round with a compulsion spell.

Phylactery is definitely not worth it if you use variant negative channeling. The damage is always going to be lower (automatically half of normal) unless you are using one of the variants that enhance damage, but even those are only against specific creature types. You're after the secondary effect, not the damage.

If you want to play a channeling cleric - go for it! That's a high enough wisdom to cast all your spells. Play something that interests you.

oh snap, i totally did not realize that the ale/wine wasnt compatible with the AA... wow, thats a major oversight... I will definatly revisit that, good catch and thanks. As for dipl/bluff stuff, i am kind of using it as free skill points but still focusing on the channeling, even if i end up just negative energy its a respectable amount of damage and i have min maxed cha and int with the build, so my wis is still a 16, but this will require bit of an overhaul, thanks guys!

I am not finding ale/wine domain attached to ANY deity....if i were to become a cleric of a different deity to keep channeling wine/ale what god do i need t worship?

Cayden Cailean!

But don't do that. IMHO, you'd have to change waaaay to much just for that one single mechanic. Asmodean Advocate is far more flavorful (socially), even if devil-worshipping evil lawyers are stereotypical...

yea prolly just gonna rock the normal channel negative energy

As a fellow practitioner of Asmodean Law, I can assure you that the channeling of negative energy is a fulfilling was to express the power and glory of the Prince of Law. Spells are great and all, but just not as satisfying sometimes.
