Damon,

My major gripe isn't the fullness or lack of fullness of Medusa's hair. It's the bloody fact it's not doing a DAMN thing. PERIOD.

I imagine they'll have it move plenty when it needs to do something. It may have been prohibitively expensive / complicated / distracting to have it in constant motion in all of her scenes.

G*#$!~n this show looks cheap. I know that's not the most constructive criticism but if your going to do an Inhumans show you gonna be willing to spend some cash.

I'm not even sure I want to see Marvel Girl in this.

Oh well.

Delightful,

It does and not to mention I feel like the writing might be more than a little...off in places. But we'll see.

Damon,

Even so! It's like not giving Jim Hammond his flame powers.

You know...I think Medusa's hair is INTENTIONALLY suppose to look like that, because its actually a wig covering up her real hair. So that I am not too bothered by.

MMC,

No I think the wig is there because the writers and production crew are cheap. :P

Perhaps they just hadn't finished that effect at the time the trailer was done.

Damon,

They've had more than 6-8 months to get this show ready. If they couldn't get Medusa's hair right then I'm not sure it's worthy of my time. Except for Lockjaw.

That's my hopes, that we are seeing a wig as placeholder hair that will be replaced entirely by CGI later. Every scene she's in, her hair should be crawling over stuff like a curious octopus.

Set,

EXACTLY! But so far it's now been like that. If it isn't...not sure Im ready to spend an hour watching it.

Forget the hair i'm extremely irritated that a normal cop with a baton was able to his BB hard enough to make him grunt. Black Bolt has taken and survived shots from the hulk. (granted didn't take them well but still regular human would of be liquefied.)

Best part I've seen in the new trailer are all lock jaw and maximus.
The fear in his eyes when he thought BB was about to have a word with him was excellent acting.

Dark Archive

He's the sausage-eating villain from Game of Thrones, so yes, his acting will be a great boon for this show.

Just realized that this was a ABC show. The trailer, and likely the show itself, being mediocre and cheap suddenly makes a whole lot of sense. Oh well. At least we still have the Defenders.

The thing that depresses me is inhumans is one of my favorites and Now This show will make them think people don't want a inhumans tv show and i'll have to wait longer to see them done correctly. BUT i will give it a chance and watch a few episodes first.

Dark Archive

I wonder if a lot of people will be IMAXing the pilot... I might go... alone (seeing that I can't think of any of my friends being THAT nerdy to come to that... come to think of it, Inhumans are a pretty obscure corner of Marvel for the mainstream pop...)

They really dropped the ball on the costume design for this show. I genuinely thought it was a fanfic.

Yeah Hasn't avengers shown them yet that the way to go is go full costume.

Also the guy as BB looks so weird whenever I see a close up of his face. Like he is just confused the whole time.

Dark Archive

Anson Mount (Black Bolt) was effing fantastic in "Hell on Wheels".

That said i think the trailer looks real bad, Lockjaw included.

This could very well be Marvel's first flop, but it's much too early to tell.

Marco,

I wasn't happy with the trailer, but honestly it wasn't Lockjaw that ruined it. It's the rest of it.

Is there even going to be any crossover with Agents of Shield?

They're both on ABC, so there shouldn't be any cross-network issues, and it would make sense that at least part of the rationale for the Inhumans only *now* getting involved on events back on Earth could be the new Inhumans appearing, and their treatment. Maximus might be playing on the feelings of the Inhumans over how their new blood are being persecuted on Earth, and trying to gin up outrage to get them to return to Earth and take over, 'to protect those being oppressed.'

(Pretext for war 101. Fund and organize opposition to a government you don't like. Government-you-don't-like cracks down on said dissidents. Dissident-sponsoring-nation swoops in on the wings of moral outrage to 'save' the dissidents they stirred up in the first place from the 'evil regime' that, in the act of defending itself and the people that elected it into power, is 'oppressing' them. It's a classic formula, and it would be neat to see Maximus enacting it to stir up the Inhumans to acts of aggression against human governments.)

Dragon,

I doubt it since none of the cast have apparently had any talks about it. Plus historically, other than Netflic shows, there's been little cross over on TV with ANY other Marvel properties.

I read there was no crossover in the Inhumans. No word yet on if the Inhumans will cross over into Agents of Shield though. But, considering that the cliffhander left them somewhere in space, and the Inhumans are on the moon, it seems likely that could be a way things cross over, even if none of the characters from the royal family show up, I'd be surprised if there wasn't mention of events and dealing with the fallout from however things resolve.

I remain...skeptical there will be any sort of cross over.

I think its gonna depend on how well Inhumans goes to be honest. If the shwo takes off then I would expect a crossover at some point I mean they are both about Inhumans.

I watched the scene a few times when BB gets billy clubbed in the head. It looks like he might have taken a few shots without much effect and maybe that one just caught him off guard I don't know. Medusa's hair and the costumes (except gorgons) still bugging me. I think lockjaw looks fine. I'm just going to have to wait and watch it.

Vid,

I'm with you on all of it. Mostly though, I'm still bugged by Medusa's hair. But we'll see come...October?

Well...that was awful.

Cheap costumes, robotic acting from most of the cast, and while I'm not usually one to gripe about changes from the comics to the screen--they made a bunch of dumb changes.

Especially obnoxious in the case of Eldrac (who I have a soft spot for, weird doorway man that he is). TV Eldrac sucks.

Well if they screwed up Eldrac, then it's pretty much dead to me.

Seriously I think Marvel Studios decided "We need to put Inhumans out there before Mutants take over TV!"

I didn't think it was SO bad, but that was probably because io9 had been hyping this up as a colossal failure since at least the beginning of the summer. Io9 particularly complained endlessly about Medusa's hair, which uh...is dealt with pretty effectively

It's definitely suffered from not having a budget capable of pulling off the needed effects, and definitely had some weird plot choices and plot holes. Like having Gorgon hang out for most of one episode with some surfers, or Maximus not accounting for a teleporting dog, or depowering/removing several characters from play in the first episode.

This is bad. I fell asleep 25 min in. Had a great sleep though so it's maybe good for something.

My favorite Gorgon scene:

Gorgon: "Hmm. I can't seem to find Triton anywhere. Guess its time to walk into the ocean and drown! Goodbye cruel world!"

Dark Archive

It was not nearly as bad as predicted. Thinking of it as a TV series, and not a movie quality production, I was actually kind of impressed.

The actors mostly made as much as they could out of a kind of crappy script, and Karnak and Gorgon as comedy relief (and Crystal as mopey teen) were perhaps my biggest pet peeves.

The actors for Black Bolt, Maximus and Medusa definitely earned their paychecks. I can't stand the comic book character of Medusa, and Serinda Swan (?) has made me like her version of the character quite a bit more. I kind of love when she gets badass. The dude who plays Black Bolt, on the other hand, is going to give himself headaches if he doesn't relax that brow. You can emote with other parts of your face, dude (barring some unfortunately encounter with botox)!

The whole 'your powers suck, go work in the mines' premise seemed odd, almost like they were making up work for people to do. It's not like they couldn't send Gorgon or Crystal to the mines to do a hundred people-day's worth of work in a minute. I feel like Black Bolt inherited a crappy caste system and a crappy location with limited resources, and hasn't really found a suitable solution for all this ()and since we don't get to see his inner thoughts, have no idea if he's even *looking* for a solution...).

I do miss the colorful gleaming metal spires of John Byrne's Attilan but I understand that's only one of a dozen or more different artists interpretations of the city, and they've much more commonly been blocky and monotone, than elegant and colorful, and the version they used far more suits the examples of Inhuman architecture we've seen in Agents of SHIELD (the place in Puerto Rico, when Trip died, for instance).

So not all bad some good in their

Karnac was good I felt.

Gogon apparently did not know he couldn't swim (guess it never came up before?) otherwise I liked hie character.

Crystal actor comes off as flat. She looks good at least best costume design of the lot.

Medusa The wig looks weird. the cg is kind of meh and the one fight scene with her hair was a bit disappointing.

Lock jaw no complaints whose a good big puppy you are! you are!

Triton
WORK ON THE MAKE UP his head looks weird af

Maximus not bad if it wasn't for the whole being a jerk you would want to take his side. Actor is solid

Black Bolt (Blackagar Boltagon) some spoilers most stuff from trailer
One of my favorite marvel characters. the previews had me worried it seemed like all they did was give him the black canary thing and made him a wimp Preview LIED! he takes several cops batons beating on him and clearly could break them all in half but chooses not to. The tazer made him gasp which tazer to the spine I could see it. Then they literally just go to town on him he up a few minutes later no bruises let them have their fun so he wouldn't have to hurt them.
as far as the actor goes he didn't have enough presence and he just looks so confused to me the whole time hes on screen. Still was not truly terrible

I think it is better then the critics are saying but it can be improved quite a bit. I would continue to watch

Other complaints
The script some of the monologue seemed so janky. also did they reverse the whole maximus thing wasn't it originally in the comics max that wanted to stay on attilan forever and never leave?

I guess there weren't a lot of opportunities to learn to swim in Attilan, which seemed to lack any sort of lakes or ponds or even swimming pools.

Triton, on the other hand, must be loving earth (even with the whole 'getting shot' thing). No wonder he hasn't surfaced yet... :)

Right? OMG LOOK AT ALL THE WATER!!! 5 years later.

uhh I went for a swim?

Now, now. Be fair. From the video he'd seen, the ocean was where Triton was last spotted. Having no personal experience with oceans, Gorgon simply didn't know what to expect when he waded in.

Also, MMCJawa, I think Gorgon hung out with surfers because (1) at that point he couldn't follow Triton's trail any further; (2) the surfers were potentially a good source of information about the local area (that one's speculation on my part); and (3) he figured the isolated beach he was already at was a good location to confront Maximus. He did advise the surfers to leave, but didn't fault them for staying.

Yeah I don't think he was pulling an Ophelia. I think the currents probably just caught him.

Dark Archive

Gorgon hung out with the surfers because they had snacks, and he forgot to bring any with him when he left Attilan.

This is why Gorgon kind of sucks to be sent on missions by himself. He goes on journeys of indeterminate length to unfamiliar territory, and wants to bring a gun, but totally spaces on bringing a canteen or some protein bars.

Not that Auran was any smarter. These people have no clue how to function outside of Attilan. :)

(I guess there's not a lot of call for nature hikes on the airless surface of the moon...)

Shadow Lodge Contributor, RPG Superstar 2010 Top 8

We got a shot of him hesitating as he waded it. To me, that looked like it was clear to him that going for a swim wasn't going to work; he's just not built for it.

And yet, he persisted. Add to it that wandering into the ocean like that isn't a great way of looking for Triton to begin with, and the whole thing just struck me as an absurd choice for that character.

I feel like Crystal got nerfed? Maybe we'll see her go all-out eventually, but I feel like the Crystal who could do a hundred-days mining work in a minute is not someone who would be inconvenienced by, say, being locked in an apartment.

so 10 years?

Isn't Namor technically in legal limbo?

A year ago, it was said he, Ghost Rider, Blade, and a few others were back. I had actually speculated that the character that became Jeffery Mace might have been Namor MacKenzie, due to the report it was a character that dated back to the 40s.

As to the show. These characters can't be done justice on a TV budget. And to make up for that, Triton and Lockjaw are sidelined, Medusa nullified, and Gorgon is basically filmed from the waist up as much as possible.

I did like the RDJ Holmes visualizations for Gorgon. Probably the best I've ever seen him done - in that respect.

My biggest problems. The humans.
1) Our moon probe was destroyed. Energy signatures occurred in the same location on a big rock full of nothing. Clearly it couldn't be related. *rolls eyes* My room mate is speculating Skrull plant. He has to be something, because otherwise he is too stupid to have ever gotten into a position of authority.
2) Technically the security guard assaulted the shoplifter. But the first cop didn't know that. Since when does a random shoplifter merit that kind of response?
2a) When Black Bolt's public defender is assigned, a whole lot of cops will be facing police brutality charges for excessive force. And the power that accidentally destroyed that car could easily have killed all of them if he wanted to.
Another charge for leveling guns at him when his only threatening move was to uncuff himself - while still sitting down and making no other moves.
And how many idiot cops failed to search him for weapons that he still had an item in his possession that might be evidence?
3) Human scientist girl who will be our POV character into Inhuman society. I know Emily Bett Rickards was unavailable but seriously.

Small town covers a lot of those.. unfortunately... That and general fear of inhumans probably added to the cops going to town.

Yeah I could go without science girl. I would say idiot bosses are a trope except I've had so many that remind me of that guy...

Small town? Honolulu? And they started over reacting before he evidenced any powers.

Oh where they in honolulu? I guess I missed that. hmm Now he did take one cop down and hand cuff him and then throw a few of the cops away from him. The tazer probably would of been a good stopping point but then the car flying probably had them all over the top. The reactions from the cops don't really surprise me that much. I've seen videos of real cops reacting worse with less provocation.

I don't know if Honolulu was firmly established, but it'd be on the right island, and it's easily the closest city to Diamond Head (Medusa appeared in the Diamond Head crater.)

Waikiki Beach is between the two, but that's definitely NOT where Triton and Gorgon wound up.

Online sources say Honolulu. And as you say, it is the one closest to where Medusa arrived.

All I know is if Medusa can't have active hair, it's not much of a super power.

I just finished watching the first episode. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was lead to believe. It wasn't great either. It was kinda goofy. Like a comic book. Then again, I'm not familiar with these characters from the comics, so I no knowledge or expectations going in.

I'll probably stick around and watch the rest, just so I can see how it ties into AoS MCU.
