Cities would be cool. There are orc cities (or at least one ... above ground anyway).

Our focus has been entirely on getting Wayfinder #16 finalized and released, so we haven't really addressed any of the #17 submissions yet. With 66 submissions, we'll need to reject about 20. So, yes, it should go faster than issues where we got 100+ submissions.
Give us about 2 weeks or so.....

All cities are orc cities!
Once they conquer them...

Or any kind of humanoid. A City-dwelling or "civilized" orc (sub)culture would be an interesting addition I think.
Urgir is stronger city than all wimpy human cities!

Well, it was a dwarf built city ... But it got its character from orcs! ;)

Oh if we do run with the cities theme, I will be spearheading an orcish invasion, like the claiming or Urgir. I've got several Orc themed / city themed article ideas bouncing around in my brain right now.

Well the more it goes the more a possible City-theme is inspiring me.
I, unfortunately, had a restless night last night and while trying to to wake up my spouse, I was thinking and came up for a nice little seed for a Weal and Woe Article: A mysterious killer and the inspector who dedicate himself to hunt him down.

Now that this deadline is behind us, what is Issue 18 looking for? :)
So, to head off the inevitable posts of speculation, why don't we have an open discussion as to the theme for Wayfinder #18 right here?
Our immediate ideas are:
Fey/First World
Supernatural (Occult Adv., Horror Adv., Strange Eons)
Cities of the Inner Sea
Mountains of the Inner Sea
In other words, has this narrowed any? :)

Well Timitius was testing the water for a Fey, cities, mountains or supernatural (occult adventure. , horror adventure, strange aeon) themed issue.
Isabelle Lee mentioned Ancient Kingdoms
Amanuensis offered revisiting the Inner Sea Gods
Todd Stewart the Planes
Kearney suggested the Land of the Linnorm Kings
The haunted Jester offered Demons, Devils, and Daemons; Tar-Baphon (influence on cults, monsters, more era focus); dragons of the Inner Sea; Crown of the World
zylphryx had the orcs suggestion, which Drejk and
He'sDeadJim suggested to extended to Hobgoblin and goblinoid and gnoll.
So bottom line is: we don'the know but a lot of ideas has been through around. City, fey, orc and supernatural seem popular

Well, Fey and Hobgoblins would lead into the Ironfang invasion.
Cities, Fey and Supernatural would support the current Strange Aeons AP and both Hell's Rebels and Hell's Vengeance.
Ancient Empires and Fey would play into the upcoming "Azlanti" AP that has been bandied about.
I am sensing "fey" as a theme here.

Generally, we have been asked to do a fey theme quite a lot. The monsters theme was an experiment of sorts, to see how well an "open, yet limited" theme would work. Fey, or other race-themed issues would have more of a focus that may work well.
Similarly, more open geography-based themes could work well. Issue #8 was our "seas and coasts" issue, and...well, it won an ENnie, so I guess it did well enough. I would note, though, that it heavily leaned on Lands of the Linnorm Kings. This taught us the lesson that we needed to space our themes out at least a year from Paizo's releases. Issue #6 was the LotLK issue, but that campaign setting book was released late....right at the time our Call for Submissions closed. DOH! So, there's that.
A Cities/Urban theme would work well, but I suspect that a lot of Cheliax stuff will continue to dominate. Mountains is a bit better, more widespread across the continent, and reduces risks of Cheliax-prone issues. You are all welcome to reassure me that it won't be like that......
Gods? I think that's too open.
The Planes? Convince me that this won't become an Angels vs. Devils issue.
Orcs? Issue #5 touched on it, regionally. It's possible, but risks alienating a large group of potential contributors and readers who aren't really into orcs. I'd be concerned about it being too specific of a theme. (Likewise, an elf, dwarf, halfling, or human theme is kind of limiting...gnome? Fey/First World would include them!).
Ancient Kingdoms.... I will admit, I know almost ZERO about this. My concern then is if it is TOO focused, and also, has Paizo had their way with the subject for now? If it is relatively undeveloped, I worry that Paizo WILL come back with new material, essentially overwriting our issue.
So, you can see that I AM considering everyone's ideas! I just think about them for the long game.
Mostly, what I aim for with a theme is:
1) One that builds on well-established Paizo content, this avoiding problems with violating canon or being rendered obsolete with future Paizo work (also so it is out in the market long enough for the fans to absorb and gather inspiration from)
2) Provides opportunities for additional fan-created material in support of Paizo APs, both so readers can use the new material when running those APs, and also to rekindle interest in older APs that perhaps players new to Pathfinder might not have played yet
3) Broad enough to offer something for everyone (both contributors AND readers).
4) And probably a number of other factors I actually don't realize that I am even considering.

For myself, both my city ideas are either generic (and could fit in any cities) or Magnimar in Varisia.
LotLK had been done before, but what about the Realms of the Mammoth Lords! Not much about it has been published.

I'd be more inclined to go Magnimar and Kaer Maga, personally. Got a soft spot in my heart for those two. Haven't looked too closely into Taldan cities, but I could see some neat opportunities there, too.
Someone refresh my memory, has Wayfinder done a Tian Xia issue yet?

On the other hand, though, they could end up using our work as a base for future PF material.

A planes issue could include River of Souls content. Metaphysics, occult, even space travel (stars and black holes) too.
I feel like there is enough material and interest in the planes to have both a good outsider and an evil outsider issue (probably not neutral, which is a shame because I like psychopomps).
That being said, I still think a fey issue should be next, with cities as a second choice.
