Kineticist Missing Wild Talents

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hello I was reading through the Kineticist class in occult adventures and noticed some of the elements had empty levels for their wild talents. Such as Aether is missing a level 9 wild talents. Air is missing a level 9 wild talent as well as a level 2 wild talent. Earth is missing a level 8 wild talent as well as fire and water.I also noticed that there isn't a universal level 7 or 9th wild talent.

I am wondering if there is a reason for this or are they planning on expanded the elements in a later book?

They aren't missing, they just don't have one for those. Maybe get expanded later. But it does make the elements different.

The reason was page space. In Occult Adventures, the Kineticist is far and away the largest account of page space between all the classes published there. The author lobbied hard for more but in the end we got what we got. There may be more later on, but probably not, as they can add more spells to spread across a bunch of spellcasting classes at once versus using the same space to update a single class.

Luckily, there's plenty of third-party support for the class, having half a dozen or so books from I think 3 or 4 publishers.

Check out Kineticists of Porphyria for some awesome 3p content.

Will do and thanks for the info. Hopefully they will let the author finish all the stuff he wanted in a later book.

How well is KoP balanced? I usually find 3rd party content excellent in the creative/thematic department, but it's generally disallowed in our group because the balance is such a hard thing to get right. I understand that playtesting content to a high standard requires resources most 3rd party publishers just don't have, but our group's been burned a couple times.

It is very well balanced.

The archetypes included are all great thematic choices, and help fill certain roles better, but none are just a flat power upgrade.

Wild talents and new elements all feel very organic and mesh well with the other elements as well.

In addition to that the authors are really responsive if you have a balance concern or question regarding their material.

I don't think their goal was to make the kineticists more powerful, but to give it the fun toys and abilities it should have had out of the gate to be a unique and ready to play class.

Plus sometimes you can even unintentional help make new things for it. I linked to a video clip from the show Wakfu and gave N. Jolly new ideas for an archetype being created. ^_^

I'd say it's very well balanced, but it's also written by the person who wrote the kineticist guide in the first place. Hey, I'm the writer of the Kineticists of Porphyra series, and if you're having any questions about it, why not check out the reviews?

KOP has never gotten lower than a 4 star review at any venue, both KOP 2 and 3 have also received Endzeigeist's seal of approval, and the entire series is considered a benchmark for quality among the kineticist fanbase.

I've also written Legendary Kineticists, another book based on the class which has quite a few options as well as the Mind element to actually make the class feel more occult.

If you have any questions about the Kineticists of Porphyra line or Legendary Kineticists, both have discussion threads (which you can find by clicking on my profile), and as AoiShogunate has said, I'm pretty responsive on the boards. I will say the content does raise the kineticist's power level a bit, but not to the point where it's an issue, instead making it more fluid in play rather than the painful 'each level has 1 good option' style that it currently has.

That's true, that completely helped out with finishing off the Dimension Ripper (a portal themed archetype that Endzeigeist stated was worth the cost of KOP 3 ten times over), making it even better!
