Help with a Chase Through a Forest

Advice

Me and a couple of my players would like to try out the Chase rules in the Gamemastery Guide. I think I've built a simple scenario for them to enjoy. A level 2 druid and barbarian with his wolf animal companion are gonna go hunting in the woods next session like they always do, and they or the wolf will spot a fox and give chase.

I'd like to build a "track" at least ten cards long, which means I need 20 obstacles, with DCs probably between 10 and 20.

So, Anyone have any interesting obstacles for my players to face?

I've thought of some myself but I'm only halfway done.

The Track looks like this currently:

1. Fallen Log (Acrobatics 15) - Heavy Underbrush (Escape Artist 10)

2. Low Cliff (Climb 15) - Short Slot Canyon (Escape Artist 10)

3. Grizzly Bear (Stealth 15) - Tree Canopy (Climb 20)

4. Steep Hill (Acrobatics 20) - Vertical Drop (Double Jeopardy Perception 15/ Climb 15)

5. Hidden Stepping Stones (Perception 20) - Thin Log Bridge (Acrobatics 15)

6-10 needed

6. Angry bees: Run through (Fort DC 12 or -2 on next check) or Sneak around (Stealth 15)

7. Hollow log over ravine (Escape Artist 10 to crawl through or Acrobatics 20 to balance across)

8. Quicksand! (Climb vine over DC 15) or (Swim across DC 20)

9. Haunting Totem Pole (Will DC 15 or shaken until end of next encounter) or (Knowledge religion DC 10)

10. Spiky undergrowth (Reflex 15) or jump over (Acrobatics 20)

I like the idea of 6. I think I'll put it between 1 and 2.

Hollow logs over ravines are cool too, I'll put it between 3 and 4.

And the spiky undergrowth can be placed in the back.

Quicksand doesn't fit the forests theme all that well, nor does the Totem Pole. I'll respectfully leave them out (also, who would ever try swimming in quicksand!? XD)

Thanks for your ideas!

I still need two more

I was trying to think of a woodsy Will save challenge. Any other idea for a forest-like Will save challenge?

How about an animal path that crosses the prey's track, requiring a Survival check?

Can you use traps? Like a swinging log that hits you and pushes you off a cliff? Or other creatures, like a wild boar that hits you and pushes you off a cliff?

Not that I can think of. Hmm.

I was considering a herd of deer that would require a Handle animal check, but felt that would simply offer them an opportunity to leave off the chase... hmm, that actually might be a good thing. worth considering.

I like the way you think XD

Actually, I WAS thinking of making the bear chase them if they fail their check, and start rocking the log over the ravine (-2 to either attempt).

On another note, here are the speeds of the prospective runners.

Druid = 30 ft (-2, but that woodland stride though, eh?)
Barbarian = 40 ft (-0)
Wolf = 50 ft (+2, probably be right on the foxes tail)
Fox = 40 ft (-0)

it's a pretty even chase, looks like.

Maybe they pass a succulent looking fruit tree? (Will or waste a turn)

Or the scent-trail of another fox.

The other fox idea might work better as a Survival or Knowledge nature check.

Also, maybe throw in a challenge that can use the druid's Wild Empathy ability. Maybe the bear?

I like the fruit tree idea.

Don't abandon the totem pole idea, just find a flavour that suits the region.
Stick pentagrams and dolls hanging from trees.
Blood stained stone idols.
Abandoned shrine to a deity with too many extremities.

etc...

Bottle tree.
Weird face glaring out of a tree.
Howling wolf...or something like a wolf....
Buzzards circling overhead.
Carrion or skeletal remains up in the tree, desiccating before burial.
Bunnies (What's with all the carrots? What do they need such good eyesight for anyways?)

EDIT:

Toadstool fairy ring: Constitution check to hold breath or Will save to avoid being confused/must choose random option for 1d4 turns.
