One of the ways to introduce people is to have the venture critters sitting around, looking over peoples folders and discussing why they were sent. They have to know the venture captain a little to do that though.
One thing I've done is that if there is a follow up (blackwaters -> school of spirits for example), is that if the character has the chronicle for the first, that the VC tells that character that he/she is pleased the character could make it. Being the expert/original discoverer.
It really helps with how people percieve the VC. Its not in the briefing, but I think its something a VC would do.

I have had characters bad mouth Venture Captains. Locally in Northwest Indiana, Drendle Drang is hated for his wake up calls.
At one event, I grumbled at the venture captain who sent us on a mission to accompany a caravan in the woods. It was the make up of the party, where my cleric of Iomedae was both the frontline fighter and the tracker.
I think that one thing that annoys players are scenarios where the Venture Captain is dismissive of the party.

Indeed, I do my best to ask about prior adventures and include that knowledge in my roleplay of the briefing and questions.
No, no, at least one of them is two halflings in a greatcoat. I just know.
A Pathfinder Greatcoat even.

This. Especially if it's quite unwarranted - when the PCs have been professionals and the VC is woefully underinformed about the mission at hand. Worse if the actually chastises them for asking him questions that might increase their chance of success ("I'm not here to hold your hands. You're experienced agents, even though I know the answer you're going to have to find that out yourself." / "Do you even want us to succeed on this mission? If this mission is so important, why are you withholding information? What happened to reporting and cooperating?")

For example in a specific interactive HE KNEW what what coming but what do the players get is something along the lines of 'Hey something is up.. be alert.. caw caw " as he flies in and flies out.
That one actually makes sense in the context of the entire season taken on the whole. Unless you aren't referring to the one character Im thinking of.
