Nyarlathotep?

Strange Aeons

I'm super excited about Strange Aeons because I'm a big fan of Call of Cthulhu.

No CoC adventure can ever be complete without an appearance of the Crawling Chaos.

Will we get to see Nyarlahotep in the adventure path (or at least one of his many "masks") and/or an article about his "faith" and his relationship with the other deities of Golarian. Similar to what you've done with the various Demon Lords and Archdevils?

Nyarlathotep doesn't really factor into the Adventure Path. Strange Aeons is flavored in Hastur and focuses more on Xhamen-Dor. (And those two have full articles in the AP.)

But... have you seen the Yellow Sign?

It opened up my mind. I saw the Yellow Sign.

Nyarlahotep has a significant role in the Shattered Star adventure Into the Nightmare Rift.

The Old Cults were covered, in brief, in the Carrion Crown book Wake of the Watcher.

Does that mean Hastur and Xhamen-Dor are linked somehow?

They are!

Spoiler:
Xhamen-Dor and Hastur both have a connection to Carcosa.

So will we see Detectives Cohle and Hart?

I was thinking of running my group through Carrion Hill as a sort of Prequel to Strange Aeons, seeing that they're amnesiac. Does anyone have any suggestions of hints or adds dealing with Hastur or the little we know of the upcoming AP that could be fun?

There was an adventure in an old Dungeon magazine called "And madness followed" which dealt with the Hastur mythos. You can still buy the PDF from the Paizo store, and since it's 3.5 it should be easy to convert to Pathfinder.

is the "and one other" in the list of Nyarlathotep's spheres a typo OR A MINACIOUS FORESHADOWING OF CHILIASTIC DEVASTATION????????

Liberty's Edge

I'm kind of sad that the Crawling Chaos isn't going to figure as written into this campaign, but I'm not that sad.

I've fit him into Rise of the Runelords very nicely and plan to bring his influence a bit more obviously into play with the continuing story in Shattered Star. He's easy to fit in!

It should be even easier to tie him into this: From what I understand, there will be Dreamlands in SA, and that's a perfect place to encounter his presence. You could always tie in little connections throughout the AP to signal his influence, and write in a meta-side-plot type thing that suggests much of what is going on is a part of his greater toying. He works best as subtle adversary that may or may not be directly influencing things, IMO. I at least plan to factor him in in some degree.

I wouldn't include Nyarlathotep, as he usually tries to stay out of the affairs of great old ones, unless the plan of the great old one isn't fun. That's the fun that is Nyarlathotep. If I were to include him, if anything, it would be to help stop Hastur's plan. As for why Nyarlathotep is doing this, is more then likely just a whim. Nyarlathotep has invested a little in this world, and just that little makes him want it even more. Behind every tragedy, mass devastation, and many other bad things, Nyarlathotep could of orchestrated. In this case, he might not be fond of a "mere" great old one trying to accomplish this. Best way I can describe Nyarlathotep is he is the Joker, and the dimension is his toy. Sometimes he shares, sometimes he doesn't.
