You start preparing your defenses as the creatures detach from the ceiling and fly toward you, and suddenly it becomes eerily, uncannily dark - magically so.
I'm not sure who has a light source, but this is a darkness effect. You can see through it with darkvision (which is most of the party), but anyone who doesn't have darkvision is gonna have some trouble.
To be specific, were you using a light spell, a lantern, a sunrod, or some other light source?

Light spell, cast on my ankh. Which means it's now dark.

Yep. So the light spell is effectively nullified, the ankh is radiating an area of darkness, and Aberus can't see anything. Alexa has darkvision, though, so she does get her shot off as the creature closes in!
Alexa's arrow whistles through the darkness and causes some fluttering and consternation from one of the creatures as it flits closer to Aberus (who can't see it).
Aberus draws his scimitar and moves into the room, just before it's plunged into darkness as his ankh's magical light is suppressed.
Arloric, where specifically do you wanna go? If you post in the Roll20 chat window I can assign your token and you can move it.
Still need Ithilwen's action.
Tokens have been assigned for Aberus, Uriel, and Alexa.

I've posted there now. Arloric's going to keep by Aberus. He can see where Aberus can't.
As the darkness shrouds the cavern, Arloric lets out a bark of laughter.

"Well, this is what I get for trying to make nice with something for once" Ithilwen sighs as she readies her crossbow, her vision attuning to the infrared spectrum the only telltale sign of some kind of magical darkness having fallen upon them.

Aberus pushed down a swell of panic as darkness enveloped him. "Arloric! Is that you? What happened?"
Arloric grabs him on the shoulder to steady him.
"Aye, it's me. Damn squid-things made some kind of magical darkness. I can see just fine, but it looks like you may need a little more of Sarenrae's power to see."

Ithilwen's bolt flies short and misses the flying squid-things.
The squid-things flit toward the group, one trying to reach with its tentacles toward Aberus.
Squid thing 2: Slam attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
It smashes into him...
Squid thing 2: Slam damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Squid thing 2: Grab: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
...but Aberus forces it off before it can get a firm grip on him!
1 used a power and moved; 3 double moved so it could get into the choke point.
Uriel is up, then it's round 2 and the rest of the party again!

Alexa drops her bow when the squid-beast flies at her and tries to slide underneath it as it jumps...

...but unfortunately, it drops too quickly for her to try it. She opts to punch the thing instead.

Ithilwen mutters a curse in Undercommon as her bolt flies past the creature. Her limber body suddenly twists and bends in a warlike dance, her heels clanging against the stone in a rhythmic tempo as she bellows her defiance at the underground stalkers.

He should move his token then. ;) Since he said "follows" I'll put him a little behind Aberus to one side. He can attack the one that flew over behind, or 5' up and attack the ones on Aberus.
Alexa's punch doesn't quite crush the squid-thing, but does leave it wobbling erratically. Its tentacles twitch in an uncoordinated fashion.
Arloric is unable to make an effective strike as the creatures flit around.

Aravashnial says, "I do not have any spells currently prepared that would be able to counter magical darkness, much less the mundane sort that currently clouds my vision!"
Anevia shouts, "I can't see through the darkness either! I don't have a shot!"
The badly-battered squid thing between Arloric and Alexa hunkers down and tries to avoid taking a further beating, as there's nowhere for it to escape to. #3: Total defense.
The two facing Aberus both flail their suckered tentacles at him!

Aberus is struck again!

Remember you have a +1 bonus to atk. rolls from the Shrine's effect which stacks with another +1 from Ithilwen's bardic performance – if you can see her i.e. if you have darkvision.

The darkness emanates from Aberus - it was placed on his glowing holy symbol. If you don't have darkvision, you can't see through it.

Telerin's magic causes one of the creatures to become briefly insensate and unable to act.
Aberus, Arloric, and Ithilwen have little luck in repelling the monsters.
The creature facing off with Arloric flails its tentacles at him!
Creature 1: Tentacles: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 ... to no avail.
The one that has grabbed Aberus constricts and squeezes painfully.
Creature 2: Constrict: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Creature 2: Constrict damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Not good for poor Aberus!
The third one is, fortunately, dazed due to Telerin's magic.

The grappled condition does give a -4 Dex penalty, but this also gets people to remember things like inspire courage. :)
Uriel gives a mighty slash that shears off a chunk of the monstrosity. Following on the heels of Ithilwhen's lash, this is certainly tearing the creature up. While it remains attached to Aberus, it is definitely worse for the wear.

Arloric's sword shears off the end of the squid-monster's... head? It flops to the ground, squirming and spurting dark blood. Aberus gasps and catches his breath again!
(Of course with darkvision, everything is black and white, so it looks like the chocolate syrup in Psycho!)

Aberus inhaled sharply as the tentacles released their grip on him. "Arloric! Was that you? Thank you!" He clumsily stepped back to catch his breath in the darkness, then raised his free hand to work a healing spell.
