I'll be thrilled if both my guesses are correct. The more secret projects the better!

Everybody thinks that, but what you gain in doubled work capacity, you more than lose in time wasted battling your clone to the death for supremacy.

Huh. I'm kind of surprised that Ninja doesn't have a first-party trick for Mirror Image.

Obviously cloning is going in alphabetical order.....

Functional clones or spare parts clones?

A functional clone would be a spare parts clone in the right circumstance.

Here's my guess.

We have one canon death for a Runelord.

Leaving six others, nice number...six.

Several adventures and hints/work in Paths about the others.

The time line suggested puts us around the possible release time of one of Paizo's "risky, nonstandard, they did what?"Paths.

I believe James Jacobs is central to the idea of the Runelords, their role in history and shaping the current face of the game.

Some other posts pointed out having players go beyond/epic/etc...

So....my theory is a Path on defeating the newly risen Runelords!

And a rules book to support this style of play.

Starstone-related is my guess.

Next year marks the 10 year Anniversary of the Adventure Path line. I don't think the quote refers to a difficulty level but perhaps an ascension into divinity (hopefully only in regards to demi-gods/ acolytes but not Starstone related). Consider my interest peaked though regardless of the outcome.

I've got a couple of guesses based on stuff I've noticed over the years:

1)Unspeakable Futures. Because James has been working on the thing for years and it's become something of a legend around here.

2)Space Opera spin-off. There's a sizeable amount of rules scattered through the various supplements and APs that could be already be spot-welded together to make Pathfinder viable in a modern/sci-fi setting. I lean towards Space Opera because of the hints dropped in Iron Gods, especially the stuff about the Dominions of the Black. Add to this the various alien creatures in Bestiary 5 and *sniff* yep, it smells like sci-fi.

Although the Second Darkness update sounds plausible too.

I came in here to say that. Please dear Desna let it be that.

I like the idea of Epic rules, but could the first big project actually be Mythic Unchained? Either way, the second big project could be Wrath of the Righteous Anniversary Edition Reloaded.

Lately James has seemed to be quite clear that he prefers producing story over rules (though that's perhaps a misconception). I'd be surprised if his project was more focussed on mechanics than on Golarion lore.

I've done it.

Spoiler:
It involved lots of me readying for Krune to cast a spell and people teleporting me next to him. In fact, every win I've seen of that involved heavy use of teleportation/other spells to move allies around.

Given

Spoiler:
Krune's specialty is Conjuration, there's something enjoyably ironic about beating him with teleportation tricks.

3) Hardcover campaign setting. Varisia seems most likely, but I could also see James psyched about a hardcover Darklands book (which is due for an update given the existing one is 3.5). It's also a big enough topic that you could easily write an entire book detailing the layers, major vaults, etc.

The latest Campaign Setting book out is Darklands Revisited. There's still enough down there to make a hardcover out of, but the pb update is here already.

Didn't paizo very expressly say that they were not interested in making another Anniversary Edition because it doesn't make sense financially?

And I seem to remember that JJ said that he never really liked the idea of Epic Levels and that Mythic was paizo's way of dealing with that.

How about a Sandpoint boxed set? I remember that idea being tossed around some time ago and always liked it.

Liz Courts wrote:

Oh, I never suggested you wouldn't ultimately prevail. Only that the time spent on the battle would negatively impact your productivity. And then too, there's all the broken furniture to consider. The cost-benefit analysis on autocloning to lessen one's workload just doesn't work out.

Now as a training tool to hone your skills... clones are hard to top.

Nullpunkt wrote:

They said they wouldn't promise one and to not expect one, but have never fully shut down the idea of ever doing one again. So predictably, the internet has latched onto the idea of any possibility for another happening, especially for big things like another major anniversary date.

I can't say I blame them - I certainly would leap at the opportunity for a Crimson Throne updated re-release.

Quote:

This is correct. James and Paizo in general have been fairly persistent in saying they have no interest in doing post-level 20 content and that Mythic was intended to allow people to tackle challenges above that level.

They also said on many occasions that boxed sets of any kind are not financially viable.

It is a goblin, ratfolk, mite, kobold themed AP. Or a drow noble AP....

Thread Summary (in order of likelihood of working on it):

Any AP - No, that's exactly what he's stepping away from

Anniversary Edition - slimly possible
Pathfinder Epic Adventures (since a similar AP was on his mind...) - unlikely (sadly)
Sandpoint Box Set - unlikely (finances)
Unspeakable Futures - surprising but possible
Pathfinder Cartoon or Movie - possible
Pathfinder RPG Computer game with Obsidian - highly possible as a consultant
Pathfinder in some other medium not listed - ?
Gamer Fall-out Shelter - 100% certainty, but probably not the secret project.

But I agree with this most actually:

That's also possible. Don't assume that because I didn't mention something that it's not possible.

It's a combination of enjoyment and frustration. I just hope that folks won't get too disappointed if their expectations go too high, especially given some folks' ability to over-read into words I wrote and make leaps of logic and assumptions that are not directly supported by what I've said before.

(I'd actually assumed that by the time the foreword to #102 was out that at least ONE of the "secret projects" I'm currently involved in, of which there are more than one, would be something I could talk about... but we're still at the very least a few weeks away from being able to talk about that, alas...)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think he is working on some hardcovers for the campaign line...

Possibilities are...

- A Big Book on Abaslom.
- A Golarion Planar book
- Detailing one of the continents (either Dragon Empires or Southern Garund)
- A Golarion solar system book with a 'How to run adventures in Golarion's space guide'.

Or...

Maybe he writing a novel for the Pathfinder Tales.

Than again this whole talk about 'Secret Projects' might be a ruse to get us talking about what we would like to see to get ideas.
