Can you use this card AFTER the combat check is rolled to add the +1/+2?

It doesn't say "For your combat check" but rather "add to your combat check" - so my wishful thinking is that you can play it after rolling.

Nope, it's played in the "Play cards and use powers that affect the check (optional)" step of the check, which is still before you roll.

Cards and powers that affect the outcome of rolls specifically say so. Otherwise, like skizzerz says, it is prior to the check is rolled.
