Cannibals eating your allies

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

When you reset your hand on cannibal isle do you bury the ally immediately?

I suspect so, but the surgeon has a reveal ability. Does that allow you to circumvent the Isle's abilty

I've always played it that you cannot use any powers at all in between resetting your hand and the Cannibal Isle trigger. I can't point you to any rules that explicitly say that is the case, however, just a lot of rules that together strongly insinuate that it is the case.

Yes. Amaryllis' Sage friend demanded hazard pay after being attacked by cannibals yet again. :)

Nope. Under Reset Your Hand, p. 14 of the WotR Rulebook (and errataed into the S&S rulebook) it states that you cannot do anything while resetting your hand unless the power/card states it may be used while resetting your hand.

I don't have my cards in front of me but what does cannibal island say, because if it says that at the end of your turn than you have to bury the ally, then according to the wrath of the righteous rule book you would bury the ally before you reset your hand.

wrath of the righteous rule book says " end of your turn: first, resolve any effects that happen at the end of your turn, then reset your hand,"

if it says after you reset your hand bury the ally than yes you would bury it after you draw up

It reads "After you reset your hand, bury an ally."

This is vague in the rulebook, because due to the word "after" the above FAQ no longer applies to it (that only applies to "while resetting your hand"). Resetting your hand is still part of the End Your Turn step of a turn though, and it is not clear that you can play cards or use powers during a step of the turn unless it says you can (you can play in between steps without restriction, but playing during steps if the step doesn't say you can is less clear).

I'm of the opinion that if it is during a step of the turn and you aren't told you can play cards or use powers at that time, then you cannot. This means you cannot play cards or use powers in between resetting your hand and the Cannibal Isle power happening.

I play anything with an "After [action, event, etc]" as if it has an implied "Immediately", meaning that there isn't time between the trigger and the effect to do anything else. This is only explicit in the rules for explore triggers, but I don't think it breaks anything and it makes the most sense. Otherwise, you could choose to resolve it 3 turns later as it is still "after" you reset your hand.
