How would you buff the skill unlocks?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I think that most of the skill unlocks are kind of bad. So i wonder witch once you would change and if you know, what would you change them to?

I don't think the unlocks themselves are bad. I think the bigger problem is that you have to wait too long in order to use them.

I've integrated skill unlocks extensively in my homebrew campaign, giving Rogues full access, with Investigators and my homemade Vigilante getting bonus choices among a few specific options (Sense Motive and Disable Device as Investigator examples, Climb and Acrobatics as Vigilante examples). For those classes, instead of giving access at 5/10/15/20 ranks, I do 3/5/7/10 ranks.

For anyone else simply taking a Signature Skill, the progression is 3/7/10/14.

Even the most powerful signature skills compare poorly to a 5th level spell. With that in mind, I see no problem giving people full access by level 10 if you are supposed to be good at it.

I changed it up a bit. I give everyone skill unlocks for all skills at 5, 10, 15 and 20. If you spend a feat, or have Rogues edge, your progression moves forward by 5 levels, 1, 5, 10 and 15.

Doesn't seem broken.

I give skill unlocks 1 every 3 levels (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18) for all Characters. Unchained Rogue has this 6 for free and 4 from his class.

and you have the option to take the premaded version, or just create your own skill unlock (we write every single skill unlock for future characters).

Skill unlocks aren´t a bad idea, just i rather the skill tricks instead. They have a feeling of achievement.

Could you share some of your skill unlocks that you have created?

Right now in my games all players get 1 at level one and you can't get more if your not a rogue.

I want them to be strong and compere to spells in power level. A thing that can make a rogue better at skills then a wizard is when he try to solve skill challenges.
