Am I only allowed to pick one? Because I'm torn between barbarian, slayer, and inquisitor.

Scarab Sages

My favorites using Paizo only materials are-

Cavalier

Paladin

Ranger

Hunter

Unchained Monk

In that order. Core monk + archetypes would be the 6th.

If 3pp materials are available, the list changes to-

Battlelord (Amora Games -Liber Influxus Communis)

Soulknife (Dreamscarred Press -Ultimate Psionics)

Fighter

Armorist (Drop Dead Studios -Spheres of Power)

Survivor (Amora Games -Liber Influxus Communis)

The Mesmerist from Occult Adventures (particularly the Vexing Daredevil archetype) is fast climbing both lists though. The whole "mystic swashbuckler" thing really appeals to me, and the Vexing Daredevil does it really well.

I like fighters. I find the number of feats lets you assemble interesting mechanical interactions at an early level while allowing for a range of at least moderately effective character concepts. The only thing that makes me sad about them is lack of skill points.

I have one where I put a few points in Intelligence, play a human, and use your FCB for skill points, spend a feat on added traits to get the trait bonus to multiple skills (and skills as a class skill). At 5th level, he's got a really good perception, disable device, knowledge (engineering), and diplomacy. Has quite a few out-of-combat things he does and is a blast to play. Does about as much damage as the party barbarian, too (falcata w/ weapon specialization, weapon training, weapon focus, power attack, etc.)

So by martial do you mean 'doesn't cast spells' or 'fights in melee'

Because if its the latter I'm going to have to say my favorite martial is a druid.

ugh... if you include casters, the term martial has no meaning.

Druids are martial.

Wizards can be too.

ick.

I like anything with Martial Flexibility. Shame there aren't a lot of classes and archetypes that have it, the ability to adapt to specific creatures is really awesome. The slayer/hunter Player Companion line usually comes with some really nice options for it too. What I'm really excited for though is the coming Player Companion: Weapon Master's Handbook in November. If that isn't the place to give martials nice things, I don't know what is!

Why can't the thread just be retitled favorite melee class? The term martial just comes with alot of baggage.

The thread name was probably created under the assumption that people wouldn't be arguing semantics about what qualifies as a martial.

That sounds fun, my current fighter is a trip based human fighter, so he has a decent int. Between the int bonus, the human bonus and the favored class bonus, he isn't too limited for skill points, but I still wish he had more.
