Which doctor? Witch Doctor! (Shaman)

Advice

One concept I've been wanting to do for a while is Positive Energy channeler that worships Pharasma and makes heavy use of Fateful Channel (How many rerolls are too many? ;)) I was originally planning to do a Life Oracle, but with the recent errata, I decided trying out a shaman would be interesting instead. Does anyone have any advice or see something that isn't PFS legal? (The Aasimar has been a GM blob of credit.) Here's my level 7 snapshot; I've got plenty of time to figure out beyond that, but suggestions would be appreciated.

Aasimar Shaman (Speaker for the Past, Witch Doctor Archetypes)
Life Spirit
Scion of Humanity Racial Trait (I've read that I can use the Human FCB?)

Starting Stats: STR 7 DEX 10 CON 12 INT 12 WIS 18 CHA 18 (Waffling where to put the stat bump, probably Wisdom)

1 Feat: Selective Channel
2 Slumber Hex
3 Feat: Extra Hex: Life Link (Is this even worth it?)
4 Temporal Celerity Revelation
5 Feat: Fateful Channel
6 Knowledge of the Ages (Rewind time is fun, but I've already got rerolls)
7 Feat: Spirit Talker (Used to get Arcane Enlightenment for the hour I prepare spells)

Luckily, he'll be starting as a level 2-3, otherwise the early levels would be pretty rough, mid to high levels it seems like it would be a powerful caster with a bunch of cherry picked spells, absurd number of party rerolls, and Slumber hex.

Grand Lodge

I've got a level 9 Shaman built along these lines, she's been a lot of fun. I didn't take Speaker for the Past, though. I'd think about a Thrush(Whippoorwill) Protector familiar. Thrush can talk so you can Imbue Hex/Imbue with Spell Ability.

I had one PFS GM recently give me some pushback that they didn't think Fateful Channel was intended to work with other channels below 3d6. I think it pretty clearly does, but heads up.

I think you're going to get a lot of table variation on Spirit Talker only while preparing spells. I'd try to get a rules clarification first. Dropping Speaker and taking Lore as your Wandering Spirit is going to be more reliable. I'm not sure whether I'd allow it if I were GMing a table.

I retrained my level 3 feat into Quick Channel at 5th. You're going to have a lot of channels (8+6 with a Charisma item) being able to spend two and still have your Standard is nice.

I like Life Link, but only had it for a few sessions now. It seems like it would be more powerful at low levels. I'm not sure if I would take it over Slumber Hex or Quick Channel though. Slumber Hex is such a powerful crutch at low levels. :) I had a few early scenarios end with anticlimactic Slumbers.

The last couple of sessions (in 10-11 tier) I've felt a lot more like a primary healer, and Life Link has done a lot of that work. Life Link+Protector familiar+spamming Virtue on yourself cuts down on out of combat healing a ton.

Oh, pick up a couple of Fate's Shears and a Ring of Ferocious Action. They'll give you a couple of actual re-rolls. Being able to stop the occasional crit on your party helps a lot.

The Fateful Channel double rolls are a little annoying because you have to decide to use them before the roll, and a lot of people forget. I'd recommend making a set of cards with the rules for it (declare beforehand, roll twice, Attack, Skill, or Save), duration, and to hand it back when used, so you don't need to keep reminding everyone. Although I still haven't done this myself. ;)

I took one less Charisma to get 14 Int, spent my level 4 to get to 18 Cha, and then level 8 for 15 Int to get up to 5th level spells. But bumping Wis to 20+enhancement at 8th, buying an Int boost item, and being limited to 4th level Wiz spells wouldn't be horrible.

I usually throw out a channel any time we're searching an area, or starting to talk with some NPCs. Double rolls on Knowledge checks is handy. Basically, be ready to spend channels freely out of combat too. You have enough. ;)

I dipped a level of Dual Cursed Oracle (there's a neat new Powerless Prophecy curse that fits well here) but I re-trained out of it because I didn't find myself using the re-rolls as aggressively as I'd hoped.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll probably end up doing the 14 INT and 17 Charisma, though it's tempting to bump up Dex with the extra creation points. You're probably right about the legality of Spirit Talker and Arcane Enlightenment being a rat hole I don't want to argue about which would put me solidly in dropping Speaker for the Past as well.

Glad to hear it's solid at higher levels :)
