Internal Alchemist + Monk

one of the few cases where the VMC Monk is a good option. Prior to VMC the Internal Alchemist was pretty much requiered to multiclass as either a Monk or a Ninja.
That is an interesting combo.

If I recall, it's not bad on the elemental ascetic kineticist either. ^_^

I see that the Internal Alchemist is one of those archetypes that seems to have some pieces missing -- I guess VMC Monk just happens to fill in enough of the holes to be worthwhile; fortunately, you can use one or more Discoveries to fill in a feat, for a small but potentially important subset of the feat list.

For Elemental Ascetic Kineticist, you don't get any feats back, and I'm not so confinced that you get as much value from VMC Monk (for one thing, you already start out with Improved Unarm Strike; in principle, the Elemental Ascetic Kinetiist should make up for the base damage not scaling, unless you are up against an opponent with Resistance or Immunity to your element(s). Now, on the other hand, if some Kineticist archetype or Talent would give you the ability to use Ki instead of Burn, now we'd be talking.

Previously, I wrote:

"Ckeruc"? I could have sworn that was "Cleric" when I posted it last night . . . .

Monk got boned pretty hard as far as VMC goes. If you want a raging img monk, VMC barbarian instead or play a Maenad(race from Dreamscarred Pess) instead. Poor, poor monk not even giving a scaling Armor Class bonus...

By the way, I just remembered (from looking back into the "Amateur Night" VMC Guide on the Zenith Games blog) that Strangler Brawler is another archetype that is missing some pieces (notably, Improved Unarmed Strike and Improved Grapple), so they can actually benefit from VMC Monk, although this archetype has to suffer 2 levels without these or get the feat Improved Unarmed Strike temporarily at 1st level and then retrain it to Improved Grapple (using the VMC Monk Improved Unarmed Strike as the prerequisite) at 3rd level. The guide has a few other potential options as well. Still, none of these (including the one with Strangler Brawler) seem great.
