Trapper Hunter

Advice

I got a quick question. I've got a Hunter build I'm planning on, but I don't want spells. Instead of just ignoring my spells, cause I'm not fond of having something and not using it, what are peoples' thoughts on giving a Hunter the Trapper Ranger archetype? Since the only thing it replaces on Rangers is their spellcasting, would you homebrew Hunters getting it?

Honestly I find hunter's spells more useful than trapper rangers..

That being said.

Given the choice I would so very much prefer a Feral Trapper Hunter. It would be pretty awesome. Though if that was a thing. I would say make a trap that replicates nature summons haha.

I think it does make him a bit weaker. so I don't see a bit of a problem with it.

Honestly it would be a really neat archetype that replaces spells.

Have you considered a wild child brawler?

I did consider it, but the character is gonna be a ranged attacker so Brawler wouldn't work for it.

why not? Sure the punching damage boost isn't worthwhile (unless you have money for AOMFs, since you can swift action pick up several feats to unlock dex to hit/damage unarmed combat if you needed it)

but the swift action feats are plenty useful for a ranged guy (on command snap shot line when needed? tasty for smaller dungeons/areas).

the rest of the class isn't so bad either.

I'm not sure why a hunter would make a better ranged person. Other than the AC running interference.

brawler gets fighter feats, full bab, more hp, on command extra situational feats. Flurry isn't useful for you, Unless you find a way to monk up a ranged weapon. Quite a few of the on hit abilities don't specify unarmed/close only.

Though i suppose depending on how much range you want shield champ is amusing as hell.

So why hunter over rogue? the sharing teamwork stuff?
If I remember right there are feats that keep AC level up when you switch or dip another class. So it might be worth thinking about dipping if you wanted something else.

Ranger Traps are only worth 4th level ranger spells, you have much more than that with a hunter. If you aren't going to be using the spells, why not just play a Trapper Ranger? You can have the full level companion with boon companion, and the traps. You miss out on the teamwork feats, but those are mostly wasted on a ranged hunter anyway.

You could also play a Mad Dog barbarian. You would have the Full Animal Companion, and Rage enhances ranged pretty well with an adaptive bow.
