Occultist Question

Rules Questions

So I was looking through the PDF of Occult Class and loving the Occultist Class though I do have question about Knacks and spells

When at First level I have 2 Knocks right from my two implement school?

Yeah, you should have two knacks from your chosen schools (or school, if you doubled up).

What about those schools with one knack? If you double (triple) up, do you just lose out on a knack?

Yes, it's an unfortunate consequence of some schools.

And what about when gaining a level? If I understand correctly, at 2nd level, when the occultist has 3 implements, he knows 3 first level spells and 3 knacks, and he doesn't learn anymore spells until 4th level where he essentially learns 3 2nd level spells, but no new 1st level spells or knacks until 6th level when he picks up his 4th implement and for that he would learn one knack, one 1st level, and one 2nd level spell. Correct?

Yes. And then at level 7 he would learn four (one per implement) 3rd level spells.

You can switch out one spell at 5? and every 3 after I think it was. of the same level and schoool.

So you can get some play out of it.

but your focus powers really replicate a ton of spells. Like so many. So you really can get pretty decently far when you look at it that way.

Yeah, for certain. For instance, if you compare a transmutation occultist with the right powers at level 7 to a sorcerer 7, the occultist is going to look pretty good. Say the sorcerer chose haste and fly as 3rd level spells known. The sorcerer has 3 more 3rd level spells per day (likely 5 to the occultist's 2, but if the characters are really really focused and wealthy, perhaps 6 to the occultist's 3), but the number of times the occultist can cast fly without dipping into spell slots (even if he just puts in enough points for the +4 ability score resonant power and no more) is extremely high, much higher than 3. So even before the other powers and abilities, if you need more fly than haste, you have the edge (I didn't count quickness here because it's single target only, but it does grant a bigger AC bonus, so in a party with one main person who needs haste, it could work too).
