Magic Weapons Question

Rules Questions

One of my group DMs (Who got most of us playing/DMing) told me a bit ago that when buying a magic weapon you pay the cost to enhance it +1 through +5 and then need to pay the cost again for whatever bonus the enchantment asks for.

My question is: Do you really need to pay both times?
(IE: 4000 gold for a +1 Vicious enchanted weapon)

For pricing purposes, Vicious counts as a +1 enhancement bonus. So a +1 Vicious sword costs the same as a +2 weapon which would be 8,000 g.p.

Shadow Lodge

Gisher is correct.

Weapons are priced by total enhancement equivalent, which means you add the numerical bonus to the combined bonus values of any properties. Vicious is valued as a +1 bonus, which means it's priced as a +2 weapon (1+1), which costs 8,000gp.

What Gisher and Weirdo said.

Also have to add that weapon or armour always have to have +1 enchantment before you can add special ability.
In this case Vicious.

Ah, ok that makes much more sense. Thank you all for the help :D

And to further clarify that is 8,000 plus the cost of a masterwork version of the weapon made of the appropriate material for a +2.
