Rule Verification: Using weapons martially?

In the rule book weapons have two damages (that sounds odd in my head) normal and martial what does this mean?

The only thing I can possibly think you may be referring to his the Small vs Medium size damage die for weapons (where smaller sized versions of weapons for smaller size characters have a smaller damage die). Can you provide more information?

Are you talking about Martial or Simple weapons (along with Exotic)?
If so my guess is the confusion here is about exotic weapons being used as martial ones such as the Bastard sword can be used two handed as martial or one handed as Exotic. Other than that i have no clue.

Likely not; while a few exotic weapons have two damages, those are the ever-popular double weapons. Otherwise, I think it's confusion over S and M refering to Small and Medium instead of Simple and Martial.

(Otherwise, one would wield a weapon martially by ... um, hitting someone with it?)
