I do not like to suggest this, but I think it is time to disallow new account creation overnight and on weekends and force all new accounts to be "approved" by a moderator, during normal business hours and post that in real large text at the top of the Messageboard screen. Obviously let folks that have accounts that are in "good" standing create alias, but all new ones, with their first post, go straight to the moderators.
Right now there are over 1200 spam entries in Paizo General Discussion, and that means a lot of wasted time on Chris, etc. part in cleaning up this stuff (yea, that is the word, stuff!).

Perhaps it is time to institute volunteer community moderators who have limited power. Just enough to deal with spam and shifting around threads posted in the wrong forum.

I presume that there are practical reasons an IP address block isn't an option?They have returned. To battle stations!Either they are figuring out when our hours usually end, or maybe they are just starting up their work day.
We are implementing IP blocks, the problem is they are clearly using a bot net, so as we block, they adapt and come from different IPs.

I imagine that if you implement enough IP blocks, they might get fed up and leave us alone.

While I'm crushing the unworthy, I'm working on a series of Monsterheart skins based on the Zelazny Amber characters ("the Benedict", "the Fiona", "the Corwin", etc) for an indy RPG con. Feel free to make suggestions :)

That feeling when I go to flag a spammer and I get redirected to Paizo's messageboards because a mod beat me to it.

Is it just me, or are the spam posts getting shorter?
It looks like they're skimping on length now to get as many up as possible before they're blocked.
Cut/Paste is just as fast with a novel as a paragraph, but given their volume, they may be running out of characters. Begging from house to house for a cup of "q".
Ah.
Just out of curiosity, are the LOLPICK ones being left up on purpose? I flagged them at least 15 minutes ago...

I don't remember--I'm just flagging each spam thread I see in the sidebar and moving along as fast as possible.
I did a more pendatic search through the flagged list and hit a few I'd missed. Hopefully dead now.
And I do like seeing "I didn't see any spam threads" :).

Most search engine ratings are based (at least partially) on the number of links to your site from other sites. The content of the message is irrelevant, they are not trying to sell anything. They just want a lot of links to their site to be there when the various search engines crawl the forums.
The messages are actually largely beside the point. The entire objective is to make the sites in the messages rank higher in various search engines.
