Nice. I checked in, saw the spam, then...it was gone when I tried to click on it to flag.

You're great!

The ban hammer knows no mercy!

I think I'll just sit back and enjoy watching them poof.

Poof is good. I can get behind poof.

Been slinking through the trees, flagging unsuspecting spammers, but have to end my stalking to sleep. Work tomorrow.

Poof isn't good enough. We need splat.

We need elf snipers with x10 crits.....or a tarrasque.
Our flags can only do so much. ^^

Much appreciated mods, you guys are awesome.

All over Paizo General Discussion again.

Flagged those I caught

We know no fear, no fatigue, no pity.

When will they ever learn ?

I've been flagging'em as well but I too must withdraw from the field. I pass the torch onward. Fight the good fight.

Liberty's Edge

It is not a swarm anymore. It reached the Tidal Wave evolution :-(

Could you just not allow any thread with a Korean/Japanese/Chinese character in the title?

Especially since it is in one of the Board/Forum Rules that posts be in English.

Damned Zerg swarms...

Software Developer

Die die die die die die!

Edit:
Okay. The 130+ spam posts are dead.

All hands on deck! They're back!

Edit: I see some Japanese characters in there too. Seems like gibberish to me though. :X

I noticed....

Back to flagging duty!

Julie in disguise?
Save for with spammers of course.

Also, is it just me or their posting frequency had increased to one minute per new thread?

That's... arggghhhhh! KILL THEM ALL WITH FIRE!!!

I think their shift just changed, this is a new batch: there's what looks like a phone number rather than a website.

Edit: and, back to websites.

I've asked one of my Korean housemates to take a look at one of the ads just for fun. Apparently it has something to do with a place in Korea, and some kind of game. She told me to just ignore them.

I mean, seriously, is there no way that Paizo can make a change so that they have to approve new members? This is getting pretty ridiculous.

Holy Thread Necromancy...

Some sub-human Alex Gonz brought back 4 threads. Two of them from 2006....

They retreated.

For now at least.

The sentries wait for the next wave while we try to steal some sleep, or at least some small measure of quiet.

Woohooo! The banhammer has arrived!

Oh, and just because I was curious: spammer [ka: newlol] was selling volleyball totes!

Scarab Sages

They are starting to spam existing threads now, in addition to making new ones. I was shocked by 14 new posts on a thread in the vigilante playtest.

^That shows that you have to do something that they CAN'T adapt to, like moderating the 1st 2 or 3 posts of each new user (which includes delaying these posts until times that moderators are normally around). Anything else like forum shifting or Captcha will just be a bump in the road that they will adapt to.

Crowd source it! The only way to fight human intelligence is with huma...well the forumites are close enough.

We have plans, but like anything else they have to be built, tested and released. I'd not going to go into details on the board, because spammers can read :).

Awesome to hear!!!!

I think the biggest fear right now is ... how much of mess are these boards going to be during GenCon?
Unless .. and I never really thought too much about this before, but does most of the Paizo staff attend GenCon, or do some folks stay behind? Specifically, are some of the folks with the Ban Hammers going to remain on the case during GenCon?

Liberty's Edge

I just flagged two posts in Pathfinder Society General Discussion.

I would like to ask that those board members who will NOT be at Gen Con keep flagging away.

With the Paizo heavy troops else where for the pending GenCon offensive, we irregulars will need to fill in the holes in the lines, ammo up folks!

About half of the banhammer staff is gone but a significant portion will be here.

Ha, reserve units...brilliant :)

I will be here. I like banning things. (Best satisfaction is when you smack them down before they even get off a first post.)

I would like to thank the staff for the hard work. Also, thanks to everyone trying to stop the spammers.

Just sniped a couple of the buggers with the old barret 50 cal. using anti-spam rounds, she really reaches out and touches spammers!

Buggers just keep coming, like a swarm of goblins....good thing their big heads make excellent targets.

In regards to the awesome Paizo folks manning the digital walls to take out the spammers before they can do too much damage, I think Col. Jessep from A few Good Men said it best ...

"We live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by people with ban hammers. Who's gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves forums. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at the game table, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like IP address, source code, moderator. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to someone who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way."

So to the folks fighting to keep out forums safe and clear of these spamming pieces o' @%$##% ... I say Thank You!

This little shit's been constantly spamming in an already-established thread.

They are back at it in the General Discussion

And in website feedback. I'm on the prowl

More help is needed if anyone can lend a hand, tentacle, or other extremity. Telekinesis also is acceptable.

Liberty's Edge

The first page of General Discussion was all spam for a while. I started flagging at the top and I am now working on the bottom. I think that the ban hammer is being swung as I type.

/em looks innocent and tries to hide his hammer behind his back.....

I was in flagging General Discussion as well. On my kindle it takes about 10 seconds to flag and hide a post but they were adding them in at about one every 15 to 20 seconds for a while there.

At least it wasn't a ban chainsaw. ;)

They are storming the general discussion again

They're posting almost as fast as I flag. Not good man, not good.

Edit: Now they're faster. My poor kindle.
