piercing thunder style?

Advice and Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Hi, does the piercing thunder style feat allow for you to wield a polearm one-handed? It says you can treat a polearm as a light weapon whenever it would be advantageous to do so and a light-weapon can only be wielded one-handed.

I can't seem to find Piercing Thunder Style on d20pfsrd. Could you link it or provide the exact text of the feat in question?

Scarab Sages

Its not on d20pfsrd - its in the path of war expanded feats.

Your motions with your spear are agile and graceful.
Prerequisites: 1 or more Piercing Lance stances, Ride 3 ranks
Benefit: You treat spears and polearms as light weapons whenever it would be advantageous for you to do so.

"Whenever it would be advantageous for you to do so" is pretty all inclusive. Definitely looks like you could use it one handed.

Hi! I wrote that feat.

By RAW, yes this feat allows you to use the polearm one handed. The intent was more to allow you to use weapon finesse and deadly agility with the polearms, but wielding them one handed happens to fall under the same category. We'll be taking this under consideration for the final edits before publication.

Thank you for bringing this up, and happy gaming.

If it matters, I would very much like it if it still allowed the one-handed spear wielding in the final version of the feat.

Anyone here agree?

I'm always for more options.

I'd prefer 1 handing stay in the style and not go into stances. As a style feat it wont have any competition since it's the only style allowing polearms. As a stance... well we shift those all the time and it would be easy to get into a bad situation involving a shield strapped to your arm...

Scarab Sages

Yeah I'd be happy for this to stay as part of the feat rather than a stance too. A character who uses Scarlet Throne and Piercing Thunder with one handed spear fencing is too good an image for me.

Also it makes Fuse Style feat even more useful!
