Where, exactly, to start?

Ladies and Gents, new Venture Captain here (RPG side) who has played a single game of Rise of the Runelords ACG.

I see 5 Adventures (0-1 Lost at Sea, etc.) and 25 Scenarios (0-0A On The Horizon, etc). I know that Wrath of the Righteous is right around the corner, so the lady and I would like to try to get through a few series to get some experience for our characters, get to learn the ins-and-outs of the game, etc.

The only question is, with 30 different possibilities, where to start?

And I'm making an assumption here- is the Adventures similar to a Module on the RPG side, getting more boons and rewards? (RPG Side, a Module gives 3 XP and 4 PP, while a Scenario gives 1 XP, 2 PP).

As much as possible, the card game is meant to be played in order. Skipping a few or jumping in late isn't impossible, but keeping it in order would be best. So I'd just start at the beginning.

Wrath won't be out until May and the new guild stuff may or may not start exactly then (who knows) so you've got some time to take care of a few of these.

By the way, what area are you Venture Captain of?

While I am thinking of it- is the Adventure Decks (such as Wormwood Mutiny, Raiders of the Fever Sea, etc.) also compatible with the PACGS Organized Play?

Unfortunately, no. The adventure decks provide you with the cards that you will need throughout OP though. I am also just starting OP at my LGS and we began with On the Horizon. It was a good place to start in order to get the extra deck upgrade that made everyone happy!

Venture Captain- Pathfinder Society, Milwaukee WI area.

Newly minted- the previous VC stepped down effective 1 March.

Hawkmoon- Where, exactly, does this start? ;) Am I running 0-1A through 0-1F and then proceeding to 0-2A through 0-2D?

How does the Adventures correlate with the Scenarios?

Sorry for being such a neophyte on this.

Firstly, Congratulations!

Secondly, like I said before, I'm just starting OP at my LGS and we began our adventure with 0-0A: On the Horizon and progress into 0-1A: Ghosts of the Deep. We plan to continue alphabetically and followed by numerically.

We had our first night on Wednesday and we were able to go through both with a party of four. Unfortunately, we were one person shy from being a hit t.v. show from the late 90s.

We all loved the extra deck upgrade from 0-0A.

Welcome to the Adventure Card Guild, y'all.

Scenarios are intended to be played in alpha order (reproduced on the Adventure page that comes with the scenario) , and 01 is meant to be played before 02, et cetera. Just like a base set.

Good luck!

The adventure decks come with the cards you need to play that adventure, and each adventure comes with a handful of scenarios. All of the adventures together form an adventure path - so mostly familiar terminology for someone coming from the RPG side :)

The Skulls & Shackles base set has two adventure paths for it. First is the adventure path that comes with the game (these are the adventure/scenario cards that are included in the base set and adventure deck boxes), this adventure path is NOT sanctioned for organized play. Then there is the adventure path available for purchase here as PDFs, which are the adventures/scenarios used for organized play. The base AP (also commonly called the "home game") follows slightly different rules than the organized play, mostly with regards to deck upgrades. Either way, both are meant to be played in order (starting at the first scenario of adventure 1 and ending at the last scenario of adventure 6, and both also include an optional-but-recommended introductory B adventure or scenario). Even if you only play the organized play AP, you will need the adventure decks as they still use all of the same base cards. If playing by organized play rules, you will additionally need each player to buy a class deck for themselves.

Hope that helps :)

Thank you, all, for your comments and suggestions; they were very helpful.

My lady and I sleeved over 700 cards this Friday night, then she spent the next half hour reading what each of the characters in the Skull & Shackles box was capable of. She groused a bit about not being able to play a Gunslinger or Oracle in the Organized Play; I was likewise disappointed about not being able to play a Paladin in OP.

I believe that we'll play the first Scenario in the box before I bring up the OP aspect of the game again- it's my hope to bring the ACG-OP to the Milwaukee area, and I'd like her to be a part of it- but whether we start with the Skull & Shackles set, or wait until Season 1 and the new base set remains to be seen.

Yeah, the class decks right now limit you to pretty standard fare. One of the S&S OP adventure rewards unlocked the ability to use Jirelle alongside the Rogue deck in Organized Play, the next season may have something similar where you can unlock or start with some of the more unique characters in the base set. Note you can always use characters from base sets that share the same name as a class deck character (so if you don't like class deck Meresiel you can play one of the base set versions of her instead).

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure paizo will release new and/or refreshed class decks in the future, although nothing has been announced iirc. If you was to see a class deck for a particular class, try pushing for it here on the forums, they'll read it and likely consider the community receptiveness towards it as a positive factor in deciding what to do next. For example, something I've been pushing for is addons to class decks, as the current ones have some nice variety of characters but the 110 card decks themselves are very generic and don't cater heavily to any of them, which imo hampers their play styles. If we got that base level plus could get an optional 110-card expansion/addon deck that gave each character another 30ish cards that really fit their playstyles I think that would be swell. Keeps entry price the same for people interested in OP but also gives more options to people that want more options.

If you do get the OP rolling in your area, stores that agree to run it get some perks -- for S&S at least I know stores who signed up were given a free copy of the base set to use and are also given the scenarios before they are released here on paizo.com for everyone else. There may be more perks but I'm not aware of them (this is not an official response so I cannot say whether both of these will continue to be the case moving forward to Wrath of the Righteous although I heavily suspect they will).

Also looks like you are in luck, Paladin class deck is now in preorder, expected July 2015. Only 3 characters in this one by the looks of things, which should help address that issue I mentioned in my last post about cards being too generic.

Based on the box art, I don't think that's the case. I know that Liz said the description and image aren't final, but I don't think they'd have four character portraits on the image if they didn't already finalize four total characters. Plus, the description says, "contains 3 new characters," and Seelah is not new. I know it can be confusing that is says "including" Seelah right after the 3 new characters part, but I don't think they means that Seelah is part of those three characters, again because she isn't new.

Personally, I would hate for them to change the format to only three characters. I really don't think it would help much without also making the characters far too similar to each other for my tastes. Also, just having a different format for the future decks in general would irritate me. I would prefer if the character variety vs. card support issue was addressed in a different way.

Yeah, the wording wasn't totally clear since Seelah wasn't new, so it is also possible we have Seelah + 3 new characters for a total of 4 (which would make it the same format as other class decks). I'll post on the product thread in a bit asking for clarification.
